Went to LGS today to pick up a firearm transfer. To my surprise my transfer was denied. I was given no reason except that I could appeal, which I did. In my life I have never been denied and even purchased a weapon which went thru
the required check 3 days ago. I work for the fed gov and never have had any issues other than a traffic citation and a crappy ex-wife. I even have a tn state carry permit. Any ideas what could cause a denial of transfer? Thanks. |
| Not sure, The transfer form has my address and ssn, so it should be unique to me. I purchased 3 days ago with no issues. I get a periodic background review for my job, so I am concerned that a fat finger mistake is now attached to me, which could cause issues on my job. I am trying not to be paranoid, but as a above middle aged person eyeing retirement, I do not need any problems. Heck the only questionable things I do is sip a little jack and enjoy seeing a little T and A, which these days is limited to my wife. |
| I've bought lots of NFA stuff, therefore, I've had lots of problems. I did 3 form 4s and a form 1 at once, and paid with an $800 check for all. My check was cashed within days, but when I called a couple of months later to check on the status, they said I didn't include a check. The receptionist finally let me talk to an examiner who then looked into my file and found 2 checks from 2 different individuals in there. Spent almost an hour on the phone with him before it finally got straightened out. He was determined I was going to have to send another $800 check. I know a guy that's pending after 2 years right now. SNAFU. Try to talk to an examiner if you can. |

Thanks. I'll have to wait til after the holidays I am sure. I just never had an issue in over 25 years and was surprised by the denial. Most of my items are standard fare and I have never dealt with any that required the forms you mentioned. This transfer
is a standard handgun that I plan on customizing for my son. I appreciate all the input. |
You have to remember that many of those working the TICS phones are a cut below the TSA idiots. Not all, certainly, but too many.
Also, they check three databases on every purchase. If one database is not "up" or the check can't be done, then guess what? "Denied"! I've sold to uniformed cops (Metro) whom were denied. I have Class 3 goodies & I've been denied. There's no GD rhyme or reason to it, they're sometimes just GD idiots..................

| Thanks. Being one of those sometimes idiots in my 30 year career with various government entities, I have made a few mistakes. I was just alarmed at this denial (especially after purchasing another weapon 3 days ago) and being that my LGS says they are never told why, I thought some of you may have some insight as to some reasons why this occurs. On a good note my LGS handled my appeal paperwork for me. Thanks for the info. |

On a good note my LGS handled my appeal paperwork for me. Thanks for the info. FFLs aren't told why, therefore they can't tell you why. Only tics can tell you. The forms already filled out so you'll either get overturned in a couple days or you'll get a letter telling you why the transfer can't go through. |
| Thanks to you all. I really appreciate your feedback. My paranoia comes from having a ex-wife that has become the bottom of society. Her and her family have stolen my identity in the past(17 years ago and in another state during times I was on the job clock) and I've had to clear that up, so I hope that this has not occurred again. I really wish they gave a reason for denial at the time of denial. Like I said before I had another transfer 3 days before with no issues, so this was a complete surprise. Thanks again, guess now I'll wait the 15 days and see what happens. |

| I filled in every item as always and as completely as asked for. I gave all info so to make the wait as short as possible. I filled out the form the same as always and same as I had 3 days before for that transfer. No issues with that transfer. Being that I work for a .gov and even with issues with ex-wife stealing my identity 17 years ago, I never have had a issue(denial). In this day and age of issues from people entering the wrong info into a persons history I am extremely paranoid. Heck, I've seen wrong info attached to a person in my job. I do not mind being accused of what I am(a jack drinking, T and A loving, weapons lover), but being that I am making the right moves towards retirement I, like everyone else do not need any mistakes on my record. As most of you here, I just would like some answers. It seems in this day, we are never given any answers until we push the right buttons. I don't mind pushing buttons, I've been a button pusher for many .govs in my past. Some say I am good at it(my wife). So I'll wait the 15 days and see what shakes out. It seems that's all you can do, but I will let you guys know the outcome. Thanks again for all the input. I do not socialize much and Iurk here more than give input, but I really appreciate all your feedback. |

I've personally seen it twice in the Navy, where despite having different SSNs one sailor's information was combined with another's. One of my shipmates had the exact same name as one of the guys in my "A" school class. Unfortunately the shipmate's DUI and other screwups kept getting the classmate in trouble. The classmate would receive notices from the military about issues ... every time he had to bring it up to the issuing party and rant about, "What part of THIS IS NOT MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER don't you understand. This ISN'T me!" Another classmate - this one in a "C" school I went to - even had it worse. His NKO account kept showing credits for things he never accomplished, such as schools and qualifications. It wouldn't have been that bad except... the sailor who HAD accomplished those tasks had also accomplished becoming a convicted child molester. So yeah, my classmate wanted NOTHING in his records that was associated with the other man. |

A felon with the same name? That really should not be an issue as when the TN DL is entered into the TICS system it auto fills everything but the middle name and race. Yes, even your SSN is auto filled. I'll never understand why sometimes good folks get denied. I will say that when I was inspected back in April I looked at all my denied transactions for the year and they had either Felony Conviction or Felony Indictment by the transaction number and name. |

I've been denied a couple times, around the 2011/12 time frame. I have an HCP, NFA items, security clearance, etc. No one can tell me why but it was always quickly resolved. |

While I agree that it's a scam on gun owners, certain people will look at the stats as they got nearly 400 wanted criminals off the streets, over 400 stolen guns off the streets and we made $3.7 million in 2014. |

Two universal truths......
The Government has never seen a tax it does not like..... AND temporary taxes never go away...... By the way, did you see where Steve Cohn said that since gas cost was down, he is going to introduce a bill to raise the gas tax by 6 cents a gallon......

| LGS called today. Denial was overturned. No reason given for the denial, just that it was overturned. I was surprised at time frame(10 days). I had expected a longer wait. Really impressed with communication from LGS employees. I have dealt with many shops in the past, but these guys are top notch for customer service anytime I have been there. There are many shops and dealers in my area and most are good that I have dealt with. I know if I put out the name of the shop that there will be someone come along and share their bad experience. I have had bad experiences also, but most of the time I contributed to the bad experience. Thanks to all you guys for your input on this. I appreciate your answers and input. |

I really wish they would have given a reason also. When I picked up my weapon there was no reason why the denial occurred or was over turned supplied to my FFL. On the appeal form I supplied my email address and thought that when my appeal was overturned
I would have been supplied with the reason for the denial and with the reason for the over turn. I can only speculate as the reason for denial as being that my security clearance for my job is currently being renewed. I did do a Tennessee records check and that showed no issues. My security clearance review is at the Federal level. I have been told that, that probably caused the issue, but it would be nice to know the exact reasons. I doubt that will occur. I am sure that being over turned and that being sent to my FFL was enough as far as the state is concerned. I am glad to have this done and I hope it does not occur again. |
