I'm going to be driving to Chattanooga to visit a friend & then up to N TN to visit my father.
My friend lives in the area of MLK blvd & last time I was there 6 years ago it was extremely hood.  I don't want to stay there. So are there any decent hotels in the area that I can feel safe in & fairly confident my car will not get broken into? It's only for 1 night.
I heard downtown has become nice but again last time I was there even that looked run down.

thanks

I just stayed last night at the Hampton Inn on Shallowford rd at I 75. The price was $80 for a clean room with king sized bed. It was just me and all I needed was a bed for the night as I had an early np meeting down here. I looked around and sure I could have found probably a "nicer" area, but I would have spent about another $50 or more. My vehicle did not get broken into either

Hamilton Place mall is just across the interstate with lots of decent places to eat.

I stayed here last time I was in Chattanooga. Very nice rooms and within walking distance to the downtown attractions etc.

+1 for the Shallowford/Hamilton Place area. There's a 5 guys in the area for your dining needs.
If you go about 5 minutes further out to the Ooltewah area there are two relatively new hotels (a Hampton and a Holiday Inn) that are quite nice.
There's more stuff around the Shallowford exit though.
I have a lot of work in Chattanooga and have stayed in many areas. My picks for hotels are the Comfort suites off Shallowford, The Hilton Garden Inn which is next door to that but more expensive, and the Hampton inn at the Ooltewah exit.
A couple of the downtown hotels are ok but you're going to pay through the nose to stay in them. The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel is very nice. It's worth checking out even if you're not going to stay there.
