I'll be in North Caroline the third week of June on business and will be heading to Dayton, Ohio the last week of June on family business.  In between, I'm looking at driving through Tennessee and Kentucky and doing some sightseeing/vacationing and would like some info on places to go and things to see.  I'll probably spend a night or so around Knoxville but have zero idea on an itinerary.  Pretty much I'm a blank slate, gimme ideas on things to see/do.

Lots to see around knoxville and you should stop at the big south fork on your way to kentucky . Stay away from pidgeon forge or youll get caught in the tourist trap .

Depending on where you are in NC, allow me to suggest dropping in to lower SE TN to Polk Co. They have white water rafting on the Ocoee River & milder kayaking on the Hiwassee River. Both rivers are within 5 miles or so of one another, FWIW. They also have a dandy little (actually not so little) gunshop called Benton Shooters Supply on Hwy 411. Good trout fishing on the Hiwassee too, if you're so inclined.

I'd avoid the whole Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg thing like a case of herpes, IMO. Traffic is a mofo & you'll waste hours in it.

Rock City & the Civil War battlefield in Chattanooga is also worth a look-see, IMO. I-75 will then shoot you right up nawth from there easily.

I'll be coming from Charlotte but my route is very flexible.  I'm inclined to take state highways and other smaller roads rather than the interstate since I have time to kill.  Benton's sounds good.  And ya know, despite all the "See Rock City" signs all over the place, I've never seen Rock City.  I think I'll swing by there just to cross it off the list.

Well, you're already on the southern part of NC. Head towards Murphy, NC & take Hwy 64 over the mtn & you're already there.
