I guess limit this to the W.TN AO but anyone can chime in....
I'm interested in learning to reload ammo. I'm in the process of reading the reloading subforum but I don't know what I don't know. Does anyone in this area know what they're doing and would they be willing to show me how? That or do local places give classes? I'm not in an immediate rush but I'd like to get up to speed sometime in the next month or two/three. |

Avery Outdoors in Memphis has a lot of reloading stuff. I can slide you some free 38 Special, 223 (crimped primers), or some 40 cal brass to get you started if you are interested in those calibers. Where is this place you speak of? I have been going to sportsmans warehouse in south haven and bass pro. I need some variety on my bank statement

If you need a reloading set up I have a new spare press, .223 dies and brass I can hook you up with on the cheap. as for reloading it is stupid simple and most of the gun shops would probably be willing to show you the ropes.
At the very least I can hook you up with enough brass to start if you do .223 |

| A good way to get started is with a good ole simple single stage press. This will allow you to gain a solid, fundamental understanding of each step involved from re-sizing, de-priming, bullet seating, and crimping. The single stage does each of these steps separately (except de-prime & resize are often combined) and you get good by fiddling with the setup until it is right and then you can crank out the rounds. Once you master the techniques involved in the reloading process with the single stage you will be ready for an upgrade to a multi-stage progressive loader. You will want to hang on to your single stage as it will come in handy for small jobs or when precise bench rest type loads are needed. I started out on an RCBS Rockcrusher that I still use. |

Decent warehouse type store that seems to cater mostly to duck hunters. Small ammo selection that was overpriced. Saw some powder and reloading supplies. No black rifles, or tacticool gear. Unless I all of a sudden get into duck hunting there is really no reason for me to go back. |

I just got into reloading, and I only reload .38 at the moment. If you want, I could show you. I've also a got a few books if you want to read up on the process. I'm in Collierville. Shoot me a PM, I have a few 38 cases that I was going to toss out the other night if you want em. I think it's around 100 or so but it's been a while since I looked. Either way, I'm in G'town and come out to c'ville all the time. Don't mind doing a drive by on your mailbox one day. While we are talking about reloading, anyone know a place that sells 45acp large primer brass around here? Having 2k bullets, and no cases to put them in sucks :( About to head over to EE but figured I would ask here first. |

I've been checking for this for the past month or so at Sportsmans Warehouse in Southaven- no luck. They said the brass is hard to find. To the OP- I just started reloading, and I read a few manuals (Speer, Hornady) and the "ABCs of Reloading" to get going. And I spend some time in the reloading forum. |

Thanks for the offer, though! You might be able to trade it for .45 in the EE. |

Will do. I appreciate all the info/offers of help that I've received. I'll be taking you guys up on it Also, I'd rather start right than slowly build up. What I mean is, I expect it to be initially expensive. My view is that I don't want to try and save a buck, buy something that I'm just going to upgrade later, and be out that much more money........kinda like AR's. What are my options?

I make sure that I only have one powder out at a time and then I get a post it note and write what powder I am loading with and put it on my powder hopper. I use Power Pistol and W231 for 9 and 40 and would not want to put a Power Pistol charge of W231 in any case. 231 normally uses about half the charge that PP calls for so I am sure that would mean a destroyed gun if not worse.
As for 5.56/.223 I would separate the cases and load them that way. Someone a lot smarter than me will come along and let you know but I believe that normally the 5.56 case does not have the volume of a .223 case so you need to lower the charge a bit when loading 5.56. I use a Lee Classic Turret set for single stage and Lee dies and they have done a wonderful job and don't really cost that much compared to other brands. I did get a Redding scale and powder trickler and both of those have been great. |

Nope, A 5.56 case when re-sized using a .223 full length re-sizer is changed to a .223. No matter if the case was 5.56 or .223, you are reloading .223 every time. I use a Lee Classic Turret set for single stage and Lee dies and they have done a wonderful job and don't really cost that much compared to other brands.
This. I use a lee 4 hole classic turret. I love it and don't see my self upgrading unless I need more than 150 to 200 an hr. Some of the progressives can give you 400+ rounds an hour but you pay for those too. For me, it's not worth 4 times the cost for double the production. But again, that's just me and I have extra time at night. If you go this route make sure you get the classic turret and not the normal turret. HUGE difference. And let me know what Bass pro says, I might go up there for that just to see how it is. And let me know when you want to come by and see my setup. It's modest but works for me. |

I use H4895 for my rifle reloading and Titegroup for pistol. If you actually look at the powders there is no way you'll confuse them, 4895 being a stick and Titegroup a flake.
I started on a Dillon 550 which isn't an awfully lot more than a Rock Chucker setup. Eventually I added a Dillon 650 for small pistol (9mm, .40) and do everything else on the 550. |
| The class has been postponed until they hire a new guy. Dude on the phone said the guy who usually teaches the class is gone for "other reasons" and they're looking for another right now. Could be as long as a month. They will be resuming classes but no firm ETA |

| Lol I'm sure the Communist Appeal would've been all over that. I remember reading about those guys posting the names of CCP holders a few years back. The guy I talked made it sound ominous but it could've been for whatever. I dont want to throw stones though......unless it's at Snerd. |
