This weekend I went to the MCSC to meet and shoot with a couple of folks. I first went there the weekend it opened and then a few times afterward but the guy that ran the place and the head range safety guy really turned me off so I just went to other ranges.
What a nice surprise to find that the old management and range nazi are both gone! The guy no running the place recognised the BFL shirt right away and was very ARFCOM friendly. The RSO was an old Army guy that left the army out of the formula and treated people respectfully. I'd say this was a very pleasant range trip. I had a sub-gun and a few suppressors and the RSO wanted to see the stamp, but that's understandable, and as long as I kept the rounds in the berm he was a happy camper. They still don't allow 50 bmg, which is sad since they have a nice 400 yard range with a huge berm, but its their range and their rules. If you've never been there, or quit going because of the previous command climate, I'd definitely give the place a look. Oh, and I even met a previous ARFCOMMER there, he who shall not be named. Some will know who I mean and some may even be owed money. Yes, he's still alive and kickin'. |
We ought to set something up for the folks in our area, so that we can have a closer-knit group akin to what Memphis area has... Im down for heading out there sometime. How bout 3rd weekend? I would say next weekend, but im all covered up... BTW... lets call first to make sure they dont have an event on the 18th or 19th

Checked their calendar, nothing on that weekend except a handgun carry permit class. http://shoottn.org/. They rarely shut down the entire range, we just got lucky that time. ![]() |

It was a good idea but it got way too complex. Another Western Kentucky guy and I set up a couple shoots a year up on the other side of Hopkinsville and we've always had good results. We simply announce a date and people show up with guns. Even some of the Tennessee shoots were pretty painless and took little planning. The Tesnevo/Coondog coyote hunt and the Cheatam get togethers come to mind. Hank put together the Great Southern Freedom Shoot and it was a HUGE success but I'm not sure how much planning went into it. I think just throw out the date and those that can come will and those that can't can read about it later. We are having the KYHTF Fall Shoot on the 25th of this month. We'll probably have near 100 folks, a few hundred guns, a couple dozen machine guns, a ton of food, 300lbs of Tannerite, and a couple vehicles and a trailer full of appliances to blow up. This shoot doesn't take much in the way of planning except for coordinating range usage and finding/transporting targets. Other than that the members make everything happen ARFCOM KYHTF Spring 2010 Shoot |

Hunting season has started. |

It is not to bad just now but they will desend like locust soon but they come and go in less than a hour most times.
We can try to "resurve" some space for a group event maybe even drag out the grill ! its been done before Heck we had a kids birthday party on the sporting clays range last week gm. |
| Im not sure if im gonna make it... grrr Im in the process of buying a house at the end of the month, and assuming all the inspections are above par... and the current owners will let us... we will most likely be painting that weekend, ahead of moving in. Who knows, I should know more by the end of next week... |

Quoted: Quoted: I'll be out there. Lets say about 3pm? Still Sunday the 19th? Yeah, unless we want to plan on another date. Deer season opens for Archery the following weekend, though. Should we do a new thread and try to work with the folks at the range or do y'all just want to do a possibly smaller thing this Sunday? |

My wife has an accounting test next week so I'm sure she would love to get rid of me for the afternoon so that she can study. |

Quoted: I was there today at the 100 yard range.. Met one ARFCOM'r.. most of everybody else didn't seem to be social... Maybe we can try again after hunting season... There was another one of us there. I'm surprised the range wasn't any more busy than it was. I guess with the meetup being buried in this thread it wasn't very well advertised. We'll have to do another one here in a couple of months. |
