Couple questions for you...

Can civillians get Tenino Maps? (military style)

If not, what kinds of maps do you guys have?  Im sure at least a few of you are preparing for natural disaster/civil unrest... and have picked up some maps of your area.  I am looking at getting some maps, definitely want them to be quality topo... possibly topo/image mix such as those offered on MyTopo.com.  They ask $60 each though, anyone found quality at a lower price?

Nice find!

If im not mistaken, those are the same folks that put out the tenino maps.  Oddly enough, they dont have TN covered in a 1:50,000 scale... I wonder if they have to strip down the tenino maps for sale to the public, and thats why they dont have the whole country done...

Maybe try talking to someone in either the timber industry, or who drills gas or oil wells.  I know years ago back home a friends family was involved in both and had good quality topo maps just like what we use in .mil.  I also seem to remember seeing something posted on an offroad forum a while back about a CD that had printable regional topo maps on it for sale, but I can't remember any details or find a link to give you.

Gotcha... Ive seen some of those logging maps... They are along the lines of what I want.  So far the best ive found is on the website i mentioned... I just dont like the price... grrr... $60/map!  They are nice though, satellite imagery, with a topo overlay... might just have to bite the bullet...

I am an Enginerd by trade & have been using topo maps for way too many years. Started out collecting the ole USGS Topo paper versions in the 70's, I have long since switched over to puter versions. I like Maptech and have the complete US collection of 100,000 & 24,000 series. They have a good product, it is even available for the iPhone and PPC handhelds. I use both of those with GPS receivers out in the woods, our deer camp has all the stands marked on these as a layer along with the 4 wheeler trails and the game trails. Pretty cool what you can do with it, add layers with drawings, pictures whatever, print em out on plotters, stuff like that.

Check em out, they have a free download & give you one free map on the iPhone app store, coupled with the iPhone's built in GPS it is a slick handheld setup.

For the North MS locals who are curious about how the Lynchburg community came to be named that should check out the 1968 and older versions of the 24,000 series maps for that area and look just below the bluff at the names of the sloughs there. I understand they cut the tree down in the 90's.
