What is the current times people are waiting for their HCP renewal?
I am about to raise holy hell with my state senator over this bullshit Nashville is pulling and I need some anecdotal numbers to give him. If those shits can't do their jobs in a timely manner, I imagine we can get some unemployed folks who will be thrilled to take their places. |

If those shits can't do their jobs in a timely manner, I imagine we can get some unemployed folks who will be thrilled to take their places. I don't have much anecdotal evidence, except that my renewal took between 100 and 120 days, IIRC. I don't have the envelope & letter with it handy at the moment. However, I do have the stats published by the Department of Safety: Average Days to Issue Tennessee Handgun Carry Permits by Month –– Calendar Year 2008 Month––––––––-Avg.-Days––––-Avg.-Days––––––Avg.-Days––––––Avg.-Days ––––––––––––––-Original––––––-Renewal––––––––Duplicate––––––-Total January––––––––-54.75––––––––-44.28––––––––––26.52––––––––––49.23 February––––––––51.27––––––––-44.84––––––––––39.18––––––––––48.09 March––––––––––-54.98––––––––-70.87––––––––––37.21––––––––––58.07 April––––––––––-61.51––––––––-84.65––––––––––51.36––––––––––67.21 May––––––––––––-63.48––––––––100.30––––––––––45.12––––––––––70.82 June––––––––––––69.94––––––––101.89––––––––––17.66––––––––––85.07 July––––––––––––82.41––––––––109.18––––––––––24.10––––––––––88.73 August––––––––––69.63––––––––117.31––––––––––31.72––––––––––81.66 September––––––-58.40––––––––-97.52––––––––––24.40––––––––––78.56 October––––––––-61.21––––––––-71.48––––––––––17.93––––––––––62.78 November––––––––39.82––––––––-86.00––––––––––15.25––––––––––49.86 December––––––––39.84––––––––-82.11––––––––––13.55––––––––––57.67 Total––––––––––-60.48––––––––-90.22––––––––––29.10––––––––––69.47 Source: TN Dept. of Safety, 5/13/2009 Yes, they are for 2008...that's the last year for which they've published data. I respectfully suggest that you couple whatever anecdotal evidence you get––and there's a good bit of it on ARFCOM–– with these official numbers. Remember to point out to your legislators that these are averages: while it is indeed true that some took less time, others took even longer. David |

I just renewed last week. I have been reading that it's taking them 2 or 3 months
to renew the permits. I have 5 more months on my permit but I thought I should get in it as soon as possible. I don't understand why it's taking so long to do a background check. If you go into a gun shop and purchase a firearm, they do a background check with TICS via phone or Internet. over 90% of the time it comes back instantly. I think if this type of BGC is good to purchase a firearm then why not for a handgun permit? Lets see what happens..... |

My personal experience has been inconsistent. The first time I renewed it took a little over 3 months and I stopped carrying once the old card expired. I went without for a couple of weeks and I wasn't happy about it. The second time I renewed (just last year) it took less than 2 months and I had the new card about 3 weeks before the old one expired.
I was not as concerned about it this last time because I was told by the people at the DL testing center that the receipt for the renewal can be used for proof that I've applied for the renewal once the card itself expires. I do not remember that being the case the first time I renewed 4 years earlier. |
