I have been wanting to go camping in our great woods since I moved up here, but I have a question.  I know most of the nice spots are on federal land and since the federal government doesn't believe in the 2nd amendment, where can you camp around Knoxville, TN where its alright to carry.  I'm sure its not a big issue, but I would prefer to not be stuck in the woods with only my pocket knife to protect me.  Also, where are some good places to camp and hang out for a couple days, thats a bit more isolated and not a set up campground?  Thanks everyone.

Very true, but federal prison is federal prison, haha.  It just kills me that we are encouraged to enjoy the parks and camp and stuff, but I don't really feel safe taking on a bear or a crazy hillbilly with a pocket knife.  Maybe I will go get a sword to carry, since they didn't mention that

As long as the sword doesn't have a blade longer than 4 inches.

Fall Creek Falls comes to mind. There's also a park around South Pittsburgh/Grundy Co., but I can't recall the name............

Big South Fork or some such?????

Don't forget, state parks are also off limits. If you are adamant about following the law anyway.

Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area straddles the TN-KY border between Jamestown & Oneida.  It's 100,000+ acres of hills, ridges, river gorges (it's the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River), etc.  Quite scenic.  Also, since it's a National Recreation Area, hunting is allowed (in season, & with some locales off limits), but carry is not.  Mere possession isn't a problem, in my experience...but I'm not 100% sure of the rules/laws.  We (TFA) are trying to get the state laws changed that would afffect & permit carry in such areas...but we're not there yet (thanks to Naifeh).

The area around South Pittsburg/Grundy Co/Monteagle/Great Stone Door/Beersheba Springs/Altamont...etc., is the South Cumberland Recreation Area.  It's administratively a single area, but is actually several small "pocket wildernesses" (10, I think) scattered around 4 counties.

S Cumberland Rec Area link

Easy to confuse the two because of somewhat similar names.  Big South Fork is west of Knoxville, and the closer of the two areas.  S Cumberland is down toward Chattanooga (NW of there, more or less; mostly on the western side of Monteagle).

BSF is federal, though, and South Cumberland is state.  Both are beautiful places...but BSF offers better opportunity to get farther from civilization.
