| Anyone up for breakfast at barrel full of white people on the 23rd before the show? Say around 9am or so? |
Yep. Lots of comments were made about that too in lieu of the "sold out" comment by Mr. Pope........... ![]() It is truely a buyer's market this weekend. I think I saw two whole people filling out 4473's for a purchase during the entire time I was there.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed in the show. Not a lot of SIG products. Although, I did walk out with my ACE pistol buffer tube I wanted. Also bought some Georgia Arms handgun ammo. Never shot any of that before, but I have heard good things about them, and the price was decent.

I hardly ever see much Sig at shows around here. I keep telling my friends about the Sig Pro but I have yet to see one around here. |
Yeah, I don't think I have ever seen a SIG Pro at the shows. Those are nice pistols. If someone had a SIG, they only had about 3 or 4. I did see someone with a well used P6 for $450.

well, i'm only 23 years old. i've only been passionate about guns for 3 years and i work at a store that sells guns cheaper than i've ever seen them at any show, and i get a 15% discount on top of that. i've only started going to shows in the last year and a half or so. i don't doubt that there have been worse, but i haven't experienced one yet. |
Maybe they're cheaper & maybe they're not. No offense, but anyone can jump on the net & claim darn near anything, sir. There's only 3-4 places that sell large scale varieties of guns as far as I know: Dick's, Academy Sports & Bass Pro. Not a single one sells EBR's that *I* have seen. Speaking for Dick's & Bass Pro, I can assure you they're not cheaper than gun shows at all. Hell, Bass Pro won't even allow one to remove the GD trigger locks to test the gun's triggers............. ![]() Care to claim which retail outlet you sell for, sir? ![]() |
| no sir, i don't mind at all. i work for academy and we carry 6 different ebr's in our store, though two of them are full camo dipped, with several more available by "special order". and i won't act like i look for all the guns we carry, but i do pay attention to them when i see one that looks familiar and i've only seen them the same price or cheaper on a very few occasions. |
Bob, you need to slow down & look around more; you should be able to see pretty well from that high horse you're on. Last time I was in Academy Sports at Cool Springs (hate to say Franklin or Brentwood...I don't know who claims that side of the street), I looked at a couple of ARs...Bushmasters, I think, but I could be wrong on that; it's been a while. Might have even been helped by our fine young friend here. You also failed to mention the Franklin Gun Shop. They appear to have about as many guns on display as any 2 of the ones you mentioned put together. As to the quality of Bob Pope's shows: well, they run hot & cold, as do Goodman's, & probably RK's as well (though I haven't been to one of his yet). The single worst gun show I've ever attended was a Pope show. The very next Pope show was the single best show I've ever attended. I doubt either was Bob's doing, per se. Dealers either come, or they don't. As to guns not selling at this show: I worked the TFA table, & a dealer across from us seemed to be doing a land-office business. David |
| i've been to a couple of pope's shows that were really good ,but the last few have pretty much sucked.on the flip side the last couple of goodman shows i've attended have been pretty decent.i have no ideal why but thats been my experence anyway.but man this last pope show was a total waste of time. |
Unlike Academy, the "asking price" at a gun show is just that: asking price. One is free to dicker away & when a show is slow like last weekend, it's a buyer's paradise, IMO. |
Since I've never been told why nor have I ever worked for them, all I can do is guess. There's been a rare incidence here & there of someone slipping in a live shell in a gun & then doing suicide right there at the gun counter. Now, whether or not this is the real reason, I have NO clue about Bass Pro. I do know it cost them a $900 sale on one of their Model 24's when I couldn't try the trigger.

No "high horse", just stating my opinion.
No, I didn't "fail" to mention them, I left them out as I did Guns-n-Leather, Gun City & a host of other gun shops because that's what they are: gun shops. They don't sell lawn chairs, water hoses or kiddie shoes like the big box stores do.
All true. However, at the last show (while scarcely attended) *I* wasn't able to not find anything I wanted to look for. Were there certain items not there, like every Sig or H&K Model? No doubt. But unless one goes to the huge Tulsa, OK show or similiar, then one most likely won't ever see everything, IMO.
Well, I was told by Bob himself that the "show was sold out". Then I come in here & repeat it & then we both have egg on our faces. Now, dealers could've paid & then not showed up, who knows? But ammo was there, AR's were there, the Fudd dealers were there, hell, even the cashew nut dealer was there. About all I could see that wasn't there were the soft nylon holster/gun case guys & the knife sharpening guy.
Could be, all I know is what I saw that Saturday afternoon. |
Wouldn't you say that there's not a huge demand for these due to the lack of easily found ammo? Much like the .303 Enfield, I think their novelty has worn off by now. Not to mention that folks are looking to stock up on semi's in case Nobama gets in. My .o2 |
