As I know everyone likes a few weeks warning if possible, the next 3 Gun match is Nov. 4th, in Manchester. Full info can be found @ www.midtnshooters.com (sp?) The range is only about 2-3 miles off of the interstate. If you can't/won't shoot, it's lots of fun to watch! |
| What is the round count usually for these matches? Tesnevo and I have plenty of .223 ammo but I'm not sure about either shotgun or 45 acp. Probably ok on both but I need to know specifically. You know I need enough left over to thwart all the zombie uprisings we've been having lately. |
The Stages are not Final just yet but from the website. Approximate Round Count: (~70) Rifle (~60 shot/12 slugs) Shotgun (~70) Pistol The Rifle will need a sling! Max distance is around 300 yards I would bring extra unless you like living on the edge. |
I asked the Match Director awhile back and he said 300 Yards but the plate would be pretty large ~12" x 12++" and would be a "piece of cake" They almost always shoot 300ft ==100 yards but I think they are trying to raise the bar a bit. There may also be a time limit so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hope to see you there it will be a good match. |
Did they knock down the berm behind the 100 yard range or have they moved it somewhere else to acquire the 300 yard distance??????? |
I think the plan is to shoot on the Range to the far left (looking down range on the Pistol Bays) that isn't part of the normal MTSC Range. I'm sure the 100 Yard range hasn't been stretched in the berm direction as it would interfere with the range in question. |
Ah, well now, that makes sense to me at last. ![]() We were discussing this at today's IPSC shoot & couldn't figure out how they were gonna pull a 300 yard shot off.............. Sounds like I need to get the M4 sighted for 300 yards then & ASAP!!!! Thanks for the confirmation, sir!!!!!!

IS 300 yards, the same as 300m, if so, 20" regular HBAR will do it. I did quite a few times a few years back using iron sights (except I probably hit the ground below the target and had the ricochet hit the target).. I get confused when people say yards, I'm still stuck to my old .mil days meters.. 100m = piece of cake, 300m = a little harder.. |
300 yards = 10,800 inches 300 meters = 11,700 inches Difference of 900 inches = 25 yards Difference of 900 inches = 23 meters Not really much difference, IMO. A M4 will easily do a 300 yard shot with a good scope. Regardless, we'll find out.................. ![]() |

I'm interested in the match, but I've never done a 3 gun match before. My only match to date has been a 500yd prone match. How would I get in on one of these matches? Is it just a matter of applying and paying a fee, or do you have to be a member of something? What other general information would I need to know before trying to compete? Also, I can't find any info on a November match on the site linked. All I see is one for October. Would someone point me in the right direction? Sorry for all the quesitons, and thanks in advance. |
A1: Just Show Up about 8:30am Sat Nov 4th and pay your $30. Then be safe and have fun. A2: Know how to handle your weapons and be safe. Rifle = Know your zero Shotgun = Be able reload and carry extra shells Pistol = Be fast and have a secure Holster. (Dropped handgun == DQ) A3: On the main page look for the 3 Gun Logo and click for the link. Feel free to ask additional questions, new shooters are welcome at MTSC |

Thanks, What are the average shotgun ranges? I have a red dot on mine, would that be a problem? Does the shotgun need a sling or just the rifle? How many rifle and pistol magazines are recommended? And with the shotgun, about how many rounds will I need to be able to carry at one time? I have a Sig 226 and a decent holster, a Mossberg 500, and an AR, so I think I almost have enough to get me started. Just need something to hold extra pistol mags and something to hold shotgun rounds. I've never done any kind of tactical shooting before, but I've been shooting for a few years and definately know how to handle my guns safely. As long as I take it slow and steady, do you think I'd be alright? |
A1: Most everything for shotgun is normally less than 25yds but that's not a rule. You may want to bring different chokes if you have them and know your slug zero. Red Dot or comp/ports will put you in open which they started allowing this year at MTSC. A2: You should have a sling for your rifle but the shotgun is optional and normally never needed or desired. A3: I would say 3 mags minimum and more is better. Shotgun ammo will just depend but it's not uncommon to have a 25+ round stage starting with 9 in the gun. You can carry a box with you if needed but 3 Gunners are pretty good about loaning stuff to other shooters. A4: Looks like your good to go. Pockets work but aren't the best. A5: As long as your safe you will be fine. Just listen to the Range Officer commands. Hope to see you there, don't worry, we'll keep you away from BOB so he won't be a bad influence. |

Thanks for all the answers. I've decided I'm definately going to come and I talked a buddy into coming along. I saw the directions on the website, is it pretty easy to find? Also, you guys are on central time there, right? About how many pistol rounds do you need to have on you on a single stage? I have 2 15s and a 17 rounder for my Sig so I'm assuming I'll be alright. My friend's trying to decide if he should take his sig or his 1911 though. I think he was wanting to take his 1911 but just has 3 mags, while he has plenty for the sig. Would he be better off with the sig magazine wise? |
Glad to hear you are coming and look forward to seeing you there. We are on Central Time. Where are you coming from? If he wants to Shoot the 1911 than I would bring both and see what the final round count looks like. He may be able to get away with the 1911 but 3 ~8rnd mags sounds close to me. |
The range is only about 4-5 miles from the interstate exit. You don't go anywhere near Manchester per se. Be sure to bring a lawn chair, something to drink & many shooters use a wagon to haul their goodies from stage to stage. Ammo is a MF to hump all day long........

Yeah hope he's alright. Looks like scores are up now. I have a couple of pics I'll post when I get a chance. Other than the 5 scariest seconds of my life where I was sure someone was about to get shot, I had tons-o-fun. I might have to bring my AK next time just to add a little variety. |
