I am still working on mine. You need to get your regular 01 FFL first, then deal a while before going for your SOT. You have a much better chance of getting your SOT approved if you have a regular FFL for a while, and do some selling. This shows the BATFE you are serious and not just in it to get guns for yourself.
Instead of a Class III SOT, I suggest getting an 07 (Manufacturer) FFL and a Class II (Manufacturer) SOT (SOT = Special Occupation Taxpayer). With on 07/02, you can MAKE NFA devices, instead of just dealing them. A Class II SOT also has all the rights as a Class III. |

Getting your C2 SOT 7 is a tad more involved than having a type 01 for a while. I looked into it a few years back. You have to have a facility, and the safe has to be wired into a central monitoring system, you have to be open regular hours for inspection, that can happen anytime. It was a royal pain. They have it blocked so you just can't get into it for a hobby. Also, they closed the regional inspectors offices, and now they are being done out of Fairfax VA. This means an increased wait, and red tape time.
Bottom line, if you want go fast toyz go C3, otherwise you will be doing paperwork all the time, in stead of shooting. |
