I believe TWRA shutdown the Cheatham county range a couple of months ago because of vandalism.  I had gone there for a couple of years and it was always in terrible condition.  No supervision, people where always walking onto the range while others were shooting.  Surprised no one ever got shot.  It was a true dump, never saw a worse range.  If you are going to be in the Nashville area I would recommend going to the Stones River range.  It is a nice range and is supervised unlike the Cheatham range.  Here is a link to their website, http://www.state.tn.us/twra/stonesrv.html.

Yes, the Cheatham range is officially closed, possibly for good.

In fact I did go out to the Stone River range last Sat., while I was there one of the aldermen for the neighborhood it is in was there for an inspection.  Seems that there are 8 or so neighbors that want the place shut down, preferrably totally shut down, if not permanently then at least on the weekend.

Has anyone ever been to the Owl Hollow range south of Franklin?  After reading Bob's listing on the pinned ranges page I checked out their website, $40 annual membership and they have satellite pics of the overall layout but I wanted to know if anyone has ever actually been there.

Is it nice, is it crowded, etc?

I know several Owl Hollow members, they are no longer members. No supervison, no range safety, too dangerous, take your pick.

I wouldn't shoot any where other than the Hobson Pk range here locally. The small group who don't like the range will have no effect on it, IMO. You can't hardly even hear anything past 100 yards from the range, some of these houses are across the lake & they're still bitching.

Thanks Bob, I was seriously considering Owl Hollow because it is closer to the homestead, now I think not.

I was at the Cheatham range about a month ago with some guys from THE HIGH ROAD. It was shut down for a while due to vandels. A few of the HIGH ROADERS cleaned it up and it reopened.

As you get into the center of town in Ashland City, thake the road that runs across the river with the new bridge, I can't remember the name of it. Stay on it for 5-6 miles until you come to where Two Rivers Vol Fire Dept is, turn left.

Go another 2-3 miles & there's a little market on your left, there'll be a gravel road just past the market, there may be a TWRA sign there, take this left.

Go about 1-2 miles & take the left fork for Headquarters Road. The range will be on the left hand side of the road.

I'd call TWRA for hours of operation before I went as well.

Hope this helps.
