My wife and I decided about two years ago that we did not want to stay in the Tidewater Virginia area her being in the Air Force she put in for orders that never came. Well on Aug 12th we had our first child a beautiful little girl. And she has decided over the last 9 months that she is going to say goodbye to the Air Force.

She went to Boise to teach a Civil Air Patrol class for her job last year and really liked the area. I grew up in the mountains and miss them. So now that our life has changed we have pick Idaho as the place we want to settle down and put down some roots. So with her having a ETS date of Sept 11 2006. I’ve began the task of job hunting we are looking to move to the Boise area but really no where in the state has been ruled out.

I’m in the IT field I have done everything from Desktop Support to Network Design. If anyone can help me out in my job search please email me. Even if you just want to see my resume advice is all ways welcome.

I’m excited at the possibility of moving Virginia gets a C- on the Brady Campaign scale and Idaho gets an F, that sounds like a dream.

Ok now down to the important stuff,

Best gun stores in the Boise area?
Are there a lot of places that you can shoot rifles?

Heck, most of us boise area guys are in the IT field.  i'm sure you could find something easy enough.

there is a good supply of gunshops around.  there is Boise gun co., impact guns, Cliff's guns, safes, andreloading, alpha omega just to name a few.  plus we've got a sportsman's wherehouse and the new Cabela's that just opened friday.  there is lots of other places that i can't remember.  plus a couple of the guys in the group have FFLs and they can get ya what you want too.

we've got a whole desert just south of the boise airport that we shoot at pretty much every weekend.  plus ther are a few outdoor ranges and one indoor range around as well.

Thank you the second link I had not run a crossed working on an application.

Updated Monster and Dice, been firing off the resumes. Wife and I have the savings to pay our own relocation costs and our Apartment complex has a property in Boise so if I land a job in that area then we can just transfer our lease to them. So I just need to get employment, hoping to be out there by November if not then I’m going to be on a ship doing another wireless install for two months. It may port in Boston that should be nice and chilly, and it will make it over six months I’ve been gone this year.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the opening announcements are from VOLT and MANPOWER is this normal for the area? Mainly contractual work? If so then I’ll need to get into Manpower’s database I refuse to work for VOLT again.

Again everyone that reads this thank you.

SM,

If you don’t mind me asking how long have you been with Adecco? Have you worked multiple contracts with them? If so how fast are they on placements, if one contract is coming to an end are you placed or is there a employment gap?

Checking out HP and Adecco’s sites thank you…

I've been here for 4 years.  i started out as an operator testing printers and have worked up to a technition.  there used to be quite a few people working here through adecco in the lifetest department but there were major cutbacks a while ago that cost a lot of people their jobs.  that said it's seemed to steadily increase around here and those of us that made it through the cutbacks that have had their assignments "ended" have usually been able to find a place in another department.  espically the "EHs" and the techs.

if you could get in on a tech or manager position, i think you would be alright.  we are "contract workers" tho so if HP sees fit to get rid of us, that's it, we're gone.  although they will try to find another place for you first.

the e-mail i got today for the positions are a garanteed two year contract.

hope this helps.

Two year contract would work nicely. It’s the six- nine month contracts that make me nervous did that for too long. I’m going to call the Boise Adecco office and see were it leads I really appreciate the assistance.

In a pinch you can always get into EDS as an HP phone presales tech.  I worked there for a couple months until I got into U of I.  $10 to sit on your butt and answer calls, or even better get into the EDS Navy/Marine Corp tech support group, they pay around $15 an hour as long as you can pass a background check including credit history.  Contact Kelly Services, Volt also services them but I know you don't like Volt.

Enough,

Are you set on Boise or are you willing to consider the parts of Idaho?

Here are a couple of links to places near Idaho Falls:

Idaho National Lab

Idaho Clean-up Project

Becthel Bettis

Both the ICP and Bechtel Bettis are each supposed to be adding 200-400 people in various jobs, probably starting around $20 an hour for semi-skilled labor.  These jobs are in the nuclear industry and the companies may or may not presently have IT openings.

I have more links if you are interested in this part of the state.  The nuclear lab also has a lot of national security position in various disciplines.
