I'm getting ready to order some powder for .223 reloading.  Anyone want to share the shipping?  We can get up to 40 pounds for the same hazardous materials fee.  Right now I plan or ordering 16 pounds.

I'm sure to be ordering some pistol powder (probably Hogdon Clays) soon and can share shipping on that too.

Primers too.  Since I'm only loading for .223 and 45acp I just need SRP and LPP but will probably also get some SPP as well.

There's no hazardous materials fee for bullets bullets but by buying in bulk (2000 - 4000 bullets) we could share the discount.  I'm looking at the Ranier plated 230 grain 45acp bullets and Winchester 55gr .223 bullets for plinking but will get some better bullets for more serious stuff.

If you're interested let me know.

I'm interested in the bullets. I only have 2000 bullets (Winchester FMJ 55's) and I'm going to need probably two to three times that. It all depends on how fast I get burned out processing .223 brass. But I usually get at least 5000 or so done before my fingers scream "ENOUGH"!!

ETA: I might actually order some more powder to. Depending on how much brass I get done.

Nice.  But that costs even more.  Especially if you are buying the good stuff.

More than what?  For the price of 300wsm you'd think they were gold

Hmm, Spiff said:

And then you pointed us to a bolt gun.  So, I interpreted that to mean that shooting that was somehow going to be cheaper (or as cheap) to shoot as Spiff.

I think Spiff has proven that you can shoot cheaper than buying surplus.  And much much cheaper than shooting the good boxed stuff regardless whether it's .308 or .300wsm.

Not really worried about shooting cheaper than spiff, just wanting to shoot cheaper than I do now.  and the WSM isn't cutting it.  That's why I'm switching to milsurp calibers. (only)

I can get 140 rd .308 battlepacks for $26 right now...and I'm paying more than that for 20 rds of WSM.
and now that wolf is putting out .223 in battlepacks (*bulk brass case) I am as happy as a little girl.

plus the LTR gives me a chubby & should be a more fergiving rifle to shoot @ 7.5# instead of the 6.75# of the Shadow, recoil notwithstanding.    Ultimately It will be a deer killing gun.

One "cost" that you neglect to mention about all this cheap shooting is the time involved in prep & production.  I don't have this time with a couple of kids, dog/cats/fish, wife, and house to take care of. so I'll take what I can get.

Didn't mean to spam & hyjack this thread but I figured that utah was kicking our ass and want to get Boise at the top of the forum

PEACE OUT

Wow, where are you finding 140 rounders for $26? Thats very cheap. Is it NATO surplus? One thing thats helped me out tremendously is the volume of .223 brass that I've gotten for free (yes, I'm talking about you guys).

It does take time, but after awhile it gets to be a hobby. Like shooting itself. And don't for get that another cost is the equipment itself. Although it will last a life time so it's hard to actually include it in the cost of reloading. Depreciation spread out over 30 or 40 years does not add up to much.

Sounds good. I may have to order 1k of .223 here pretty quick. I have 2000 bullets on hand and ~2500 cases ready to load. Cliffs is now stocking bulk .223 bullets. He has Winchester 55 grain FMJ for $115 per 2000. Powder Valley sells the same thing for $78 (I think). I like to support the local people but paying that much more for components is taking it a bit far.

I ended up throwing out about ~100 cases out of this tub. Mostly Federal Cartridge brass (American Eagle stuff). They don't last long, 2 maybe 3 reloadings, then the primer pockets get oversize. When I start reloading I'll probably throw out another 50 or so because of neck tension. Some of these cases have 7 or more reloads to them, and they get work hardened and wont resize properly (they spring back after you run them through the sizing die).
