[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Question regarding CHL

It's been a really long time since I got my original one so I don't remember the process clearly. My wife recently took the class with her mother and were told that they needed two character references to give to the SD along with their certificate and fingerprints, etc.

My mother in law lives in Marion county and sure enough, they asked for the two references. My wife hasn't had time to get to our SD yet.

Now, I don't recall character references being required at all. Is this new?

They had it on the form when I got my CHL a year and a half ago. They did not contact my character references though.

No, not THAT new. The character references cannot be family members.

Here in Lane County, they rarely call the references, mainly due to the shorthandedness of the Lane Co. Sheriff's office, but I have heard that other counties do call references.

It seems like it would run counter to "Shall Issue" to require it. Honestly, I don't think I had to do it back when I got mine....whenever that was. Twenty years at least.

Mine in Washington County in February didn't call my references... I think it's more of a "is this person a loner who may go shoot up a mall? Or do they know other people not related to them..."
