So, I bought a new 6940. I took it out of the plastic sleeve and heard something rattling. At first I thought it was sling loop swivel. The noise, however, was coming from the upper. I took out the bolt assembly and out slides the firing pin. It appears the retaing pin is missing?

Is your FFL the type to futz with new inventory? Take it apart, etc? If not, call up Colt... though this doesn't seem like a mistake they'd make.

Agreed. Colt test fires each and every gun before they go out the door. Either way, give Colt a call and they'll send you out a new firing pin retainer at no cost.
