dirty hippies voting for that crap, i hope they all get eaten by bears. |

Yet one more reason I have learned to HATE this state. I've lived here 35 of my 40 years on earth, and I'm counting the days until I can move away.
Instead of trimming/cutting corrupt entitlement programs, lets just tax the working people more!!!!! Unfuckingbelievable. |
|
I was born here almost 40 years ago. I have been out of work for a good while. If these tax measures pass I just don't see myself being able to find work in this state. I love this part of the country but I think I will have to leave Oregon if I am going to get back to work. The liberals are just killing business in this state. |
|
Our HOA meeting just happened to be last weekend. The pres had budgeted $10 for our corporate taxes... but pointed out that it'll be $150 if the measure passes.
I guess Oregon voters really showed our big evil corporation a thing or two, huh?! Frigging morons. Middle of a recession and we raise taxes. |
|
Multnomah county NEVER met a tax they didn't like. I would like to see a ballot measure that would require the legislature to fund the schools and essential services first. The ass hats hold the schools hostage every damn time! It's always "for the children". For once I'd like to see them try to pass a tax measure so they can fund pers, give the state employees a raise or build bike paths. I love the PNW but we're seriously looking at Texas. F!!!

What people don't realize is that I've been getting paid less and less every year since I went into practice. Up until now I just sucked it up and worked harder. There comes a point when I get tired of just taking it and going along with my life. How much of a pay cut did YOU take last year? |

Every time this same shit comes up when there is some large need to get more money into the schools and/or public safety. Most of the time we don't even know how they are spending our tax dollars once they rip us off. Accountability has never been in their budget

Glad to know you weren't serious! I don't make anything close to $100k but one day I would like to... in another state! In addition to my day job I have a business where I do some freelance work on the side. One day I want to do that full time and stop working for "The Man" (especially since "The Man" I work for is the Government and I can't stand the waste I see on a daily basis) ––- so while these measures don't hurt me now, they might in the future... I feel sorry for other businesses around the state..... truly sorry |

Are you paying them 50 cents a day or something? As for my pay cut... It was pretty severe, because I was a dumbass and moved to Oregon. In 2008, I worked 6 months in Michigan, 5 in Oregon. Even with a gap of a month of looking for work here, I made more in 2008 than I did in 2009. My cost of living is double what it was near Detroit too. Rent went from $150 a month to $440. But still, you make it sound like they just took half of your paycheck. |

If I'm not mistaken, businesses will now be taxed on their GROSS profit instead of their NET profit. As for their lies about $10 corporate taxes, that was just filing fees. Way to go libtards, lets hurt the Oregon economy even more. |

Most of the douches that wanted to pass this would just say that your blue blood, high-brow, non-conforming to the hope 'n change agenda neighborhood can and should be taxed WAY more than $150... Last time we moved we left the last HOA I will ever be in. I get the point of it, but personally I hated it. What bugs me is that it's basically a union of sorts, right? Just not one promoting the lib's agenda... I was just in north Portland and the Couve yesterday and saw even more HUGE vacant commercial buildings. And it wasn't like just one occupancy or building was unoccupied, it was the whole strip mall... I will never understand or agree with the logic of raising taxes, especially in a recession. I hope not too many hard working folks go hungry thanks to this... cheers, Benji |

Its not like those making over 150k are not already getting hit hard with taxes.
Compare the deductions between a person making 60k to one making 150k. Its not rocket science. Instead its more of the obama standard of penalizing those that worked hard to be successful. Kinda like the housing bailout.....Reward those that were financially irresponsible and tax those that lived on mac an cheese and top roman but still made the house payments. |

Maryland tried this "tax the rich" thing.

Now that these two measures have passed I look forward to higher prices for goods and services that are essential for survival (groceries, gas, electricity, etc...). The reason for the higher prices is that the company owners still have to meet their monthly obligations which will now include more money set asside for taxes.
This also will create more unemployment as companies lay off people untill they have close to the minimum number of staffing to keep their doors open (have to cut costs of production somewhere). Also this could lead to lower quality goods and services as companies employ more cost cutting measures. The end result will be more money out of everyone's pockets, higher unemployment, and eventually another call for HIGHER taxes due to the state not being able to meet its budget. What ever happened to telling the state to pound sand and live withing its means. I am furious over "Taxation without representation", and that is EXACTLY what these two measures do to everyone living in/ visiting the state of Oregon. And no I don't make over $100k a year even including my wife's income. Dave |

So you guys know, my wife is a social worker, and the employees at her agency were told to tell every one of their clients to vote for 66 & 67, because if it failed, the agency would have to let go some employees. Here's the irony: Her "clients" often ask her when the economy will get better, and they can get jobs. Now she plans on telling them that since 66 & 67 passed, jobs will be going out of state, and it will be even harder to get jobs, so they are screwed. The stories of corruption and waste within the social programs she tells me about piss me off to no end, and it pisses her off too. Welfare rats with gov't funded cell phones, and we are talking iPhones/Smart photos here. |

There comes a point when I get tired of just taking it and going along with my life. How much of a pay cut did YOU take last year? It's a helluva lot more than $150. If I recall the wording was "minimum $150" or something like that. A little misleading. Anyway, I've been taking reductions in pay every year since I got out. This is the last straw.
Rest assured NOBODY is gonna pay just the minimum. I didn't want this to pass either, but unless I've missed something about how the new tax thing works, you are laying off two people because of ~$150 in additional yearly taxes? The new tax targets GROSS SALES - How incredibly anti-business is that? Many start-ups don't make any profit as it is for the first few years. Who in the hell will want to start a business in Oregon with the additional drain on finances? Also consider the profit margins of businesses. Many make money by volume sales. The profit margin can be razor thin. Now they're going to be taxed on GROSS SALES? This is a perfect bill to drive down investment in Oregon and drive up unemployment.
I dunno. I think it will be repealed in the future when unemployment reaches 15% or so.... |

But still, you make it sound like they just took half of your paycheck. This is going to destroy small businesses. That is what I thought too... but I had to go research 67. Yes, it changes the corp min tax from $10 to $150... which makes sense, it has been that way since 1931. I don't have a problem with that portion of the law. But it also increases the business income tax, to 7.9% from 6.6%... the $150 is just the minimum for businesses that have no income. e.g. the HOA example above. On top of that, it is retroactive and is on GROSS receipts, not NET profit. So... say I own a business that GROSSES 250K a year - I pay 9K a month in rent and utilities and pay 9 - 12 part time employees with payrol of about 10K per month. I end up netting just about 20K a year. I pay state and federal income tax for all of those employees, unemployment tax, etc. The business income tax is fairly small... 6.6% of that 20K that is left over. Well... as I read it, I'm now going to pay 7.9% of the full 250K. This is a buisiness that is only making 20K a year as it is. 7.9% of 250,000 is 19,750.... which I have to find for 2009 since it is retroactive. In my scenario, I just worked an entire year for $250. What kind of a choice is that? Work for $250/year? Pass those costs along to customers who are on hard times too? or close my doors and look for a job? I think this will hit a lot of high overhead/low margin businesses really hard.... I see fewer choices to eat on the horizon. |

Actually, the business that are going to take it in the shorts are the C-Corporations. They're the ones being taxed on gross receipts (which I agree stinks to high heaven).
S-Corporations and partnerships will generally only pay the $150 minimum tax. A very few S-Corporations could owe more, if they end up having federal taxable income taxed at the S-Corp level. Very rare events. S-Corps and partnerships are known as pass-through entities. All of the bottom line income is passed through to the owners and is taxed at the individual level. Which may now be taxed at the highest state tax rate in the nation. |

Well said Zeke. I just talked to my wife (who is pissed as hell!) and she's worried now too. She works in Portland for a major local company that was bought out by the largest grocery chain in the country, and she's now worried her offices will be closed and relocated to Cincinnati, OH because of this tax measure. Her department (which is one of many) has revenues of about $125M, and this tax increase means MILLIONS of dollars in new taxes, regardless of profitability. Why would a company willingly stay here if they have to pay MILLIONS more in taxes for no other benefits?
I don't know the ins and outs of the tax measures, or which type of corporation my wife works for, but the other people at her work are worried. They have been told there may be changes coming due to the ballot measures. If this happens, we will leave Oregon for good. How will the fucktard liberal tax zealots feel if the local economy loses a large local company and sees the area unemployment rate go up? What will happen to the tax base then? Fuck the libs in MultCo. |
|
This sucks. At least my county voted against the measures. Our good old representatives Bob Jenson and Greg Smith supported the increases, the asshats! |

They get plenty of cigarette money to give kids a book), so small business tax info was not something I got all the details of. |

You understood the meaning of my post about as well as you understood measure 67. Too many people didn't take the time to read the full measure. You are obviously one of them. Depsite still voting "No", If you had fully grasped what it entailed maybe you would have been more vocal with those around you who may have voted yes. Too many people don't take the time to educate themselves on what a measure really does. This is a problem and you are admitedly guilty of doing it. I know we may be on the same side when it comes to this issue but there is more required of us like minded people then simply stating our opinion on a ballot. We must also make our opinions known to others around us. |
