I have met divers in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Mexico and, of course, Hawaii that know the place. At least 50% called it Scumrise and had love in their hearts when they said it!! If you are a NW diver and have not yet stayed there - YOU MUST - or your certification will be revoked!  We did a winter dive there once. When we called to reserve a room he said, "We're not open, but if you're crazy enough to wanna dive we'll turn on the heat and leave a key under the mat. Just leave $20 on the bed, turn out the lights and lock the door when you leave." Legendary place... Certified 1978 by Tory VanDyke. (crazy ex-mil that actually taught you how to dive and survive not just pass a test. He saved me more times than he knows. If you are out there, Tory. Thanks!!)  |

Are the wooden stairs still rotten and full of nails? After you log some bottom time, go on a blood boat in the sound! MMMMMMMMMM ling cod! Oh and if you use anything but a Hawaiian Sling you are a super dooper mega Pussy!

Cape, Y'all doing your cert arround here or on vacation somewhere? Did mine in Pattaya, then went to Nha Trang for a few dives. I'm going back to Pattaya for AOW, deep, wreck and EAN this winter, trying to log as much bottom time between now and then as I can. My work schedule makes me take vacation for dive classes anyway, so I might as well go somewhere extra fun to do them. Anybody off Monday/Tues want to get together? AR15 dive trip!!! |

It's a lot of fun. Have 300+ hrs bottom time. PADI AI non-teaching status. Most diving was in the Gulf of Mexico - rig and wreck diving. Lots of spearfishing for Red Snapper, Amberjack, Grouper, and my favorite, Ling (cobia). I have a crown on a front tooth from a 125+ # grouper. Something about not liking a steel shaft through his head.  Haven't been in the water since I've been up here (~11 years).
Diving is lots of fun. It is even more fun in warm, clear water!  Enjoy and be safe!
