I have a Ruger SP101 and I need to get a new front sight installed.

I bought the new front sight and retaining pin from Ruger, but now I need a gunsmith to install it because I do not have a punch small enough to get the job done.

I have gone to Rich's a few times with great success, but I was looking for something closer I can go to and walk in and out in the Portland area.

Thanks.....

Haven't been there for many years, but .......

Any place besides that one. He only works on hunting rifles anyhow.

How about a gunsmith that is outside of the Portland area but not too far away?

Alright, well I guess it time to gas up and drive all the way out to BFE Rich's Gun Shop.

So pay a gunsmith or buy a punch?

I guess some people like to waste money?

BTW Allison and Carey will work on your revolver.

I see, my best friend Milla seams to think he knows how I waste my money....

You out of all people should know how I waste money, for the love of god look at the guns and ammo I have bought from you.

And you know next in line to work its way into my safe is your K31

Honestly I have never known Allison and Carey to work on anything besides hunting rifles. This is what they have told me among their shitty customer service skills (and yes it is worse than Keith's).

So I cannot put money in their pockets even if they were willing to take on the job.

Anyhow, we will see how your custom punch works tonight Milla to see if we can get it out.

I hear ya on not giving them your money.

But he said he would do work on my .22lr buckmark pistol a few years ago so I could only assume he does work on revolvers.

If you end up not using a gunsmith, that's money that can go to guns/ammo.

Well I got the retaining pin out, now I just need to figure out how the front sight comes out of the barrel? I have tried everything but it won't budge.

It's rusted in for sure.

I have some super thin penetrating oil at my house.

Will be by tonight to get some of that put on it.

Never mind on the penetrating oil, I got the front sight out.

The only problem now is that Ruger sent me the wrong front sight (as so I thought), there is no provision like the original sight that allows the retaining pin to pass through it.

Ruger service department says they all come without the hole in the sight and that is is listed on their computer as a part a gunsmith needs to service.... Yeah right ROFL

So now I have to drill the new sight to accept the role pin, and then onto finding a roll pin punch kit to re-install the new role pin.

Is Brownell's one of the best sources to get a role pin punch kit from? Or do you guys have any other leads from experience?

cut down a small nail that fits in the hole and use a pair of needle nose pliers

and as far as drilling out the new one mark it precisely and use a drill pressor it could get sloppy on you or foo center from one side to the other

roll pin try napa/    or palm abrasive on S.E. 14th and belmont

I already got the roll pin out, now its just a matter of drilling the new sight to accept the role pin.

I have a drill press so I might try this route.

I also already have a new role pin to install, its just up to the drilling now.
