When I go on multi-day whitewater trips I generally take a cheap .22 single action revolver (snake shooter).  Mainly I am worried about thrashing a nicer firearm.

Ammo Cans are basically waterproof but they can float away too.  Maybe I'm just too worried about my pistol.

Those of you who raft what do you do?

I'd probably get a Glock in whatever caliber you already own. Glocks are just so tough and abuse resistant. Besides, if you lose it they aren't that expensive.

the ammo can sounds good, do you lash it to the raft?

How about a nice fitting kydex/polymer holster with the tension tightened up and a lanyard to a belt? You could mount something inside your life vest too so it is available for use if the need arrises.

Ammo cans work great for things you don't want wet or lose. Have one strap around the can to hold the lid on and another to hold it to the raft. You will not lose anything. You can find anything that floats- Don't ask why I know that  I have old beater model 34 (22cal) that has over 2000 raft miles and has many snakes to its name.
Just sold my raft and all my gear(divorce).
Wish I was going, have fun.

This may be one to look at. They are made by NEF and come in 12ga (when you can find them, and NO I ain't selling mine) or 45 colt/.410. Fill the stock and forarm with high density foam and it will float. (If you have an interest in a 12 ga one, there was on at a local shop a few days ago. PM me for information).
They are a great little grouse getter.

How about the Charter Arms survival rifle?
ETA: Looks like Henry repeating sells it now as 'US Survival Rifle'

Disassembles into the butt stock and floats.  Not exactly a quick draw weapon, but you could store it during rafting and assemble while in camp.

YMMV.

Nice.

I guess I need one of these and a Glock for the best interests of my family.

I'm not sure what kind of water you're going to be rafting, but I'd worry about an ammo can smacking me in the head in class III to class IV rapids.  Whether the can is strapped in or not, sometimes your whole body goes places you didn't intend it to.

I've used mine off and on for 15 years and it looks new still.  And that's is exactly what my wife said "What do you need that for?" Women?!!
