Hi Guys and Gals,

I just found the Oregon Forum and thought I'd introduce myself.  I'm a TCGC member, and spend most of my time there in the action pits with my pistol.  Lately, I've been having the urge to build me an AR15.  With that, I have a couple of questions...

I've been looking at the Olympic Arms lower.  Any opinions on this brand or any other favorites?  I've seen the Cav Arms threads, but don't want the plastic lower.

Who do you folks use for a FFL transfers?  I'm in the Beaverton area, but get to Hillsboro regularly.  I see that Beavercreek Armory is an Oly Arms dealer.  Does anyone here have any experience with this dealer for transfers?

Thanks for any feedback!

Welcome from Roseburg

As far as Oly...you'll get mostly bad reviews on them here at ARFCOM. I've never had any issues with the 20" HBAR upper but never had one of thier lowers. You can get better quality lowers from other manufacturers like Stag, RRA, Bushy, Essentail Arms, Superior Arms, etc. Just look around...to me a lower is a lower except for Oly.

As to dealers send Pat (PCArms) an email. He is the guy we like to use here in the OTHF. Although he isn't allowed to do any more group buys for us, just because he isn't a paying adverstiser, we still try to send him as much business as possible...Pat's the man!!!

Welcome...
As far as transfers, I drive from Aloha, through Hillsboro to Vernonia. You'll see everyone's favorite hippie 07/SOT lurking around here. Pat is the best and he can truly turn you to the dark side.

The man, the myth, the legend :)

Welcome Aboard Electron99,

For putting together an AR I would recomend going with a stripped lower like a stag or a Mega. Cav arms also sells metal lowers as well.

This way you can customise the stock and trigger group to your liking.

NO Oly! Rock River best of entry level. Not a DPMS fan, but people seem to like them.
As for transfers, Pat's the best!

Thanks for the feedback.  Good information.  Cape has been gentle, so far.  But, then again, I didn't buy my guns for their cuteness factor...  he

Depends on what you want for an upper.

For lowers, go for LMT, Lauer, RRA, Bushmaster, etc. etc.

I run two Oly uppers. One in .45ACP and a 20" HBAR that gets 0.6 MOA 10 shot groups.

We do have an LMT dealer here that can cut you deals on uppers (IM me). Pat's the man for Oregon transfers in your area (I use him too).

Beyond that, look around to see what you want.

To be honest, if you want the cheapest possible rifle, CMMG Bargain Bins are it. If you want local complete rifles, Keith's Bushmaster gunshow deals are hard to beat.

If you want to build your own...you've come to the right place.

Del-Ton, CMMG, LMT, all make good uppers and can be shipped to you.

Olympic Arms lowers are fine. They used to make a cast lower for the 'plinker' model that probably wouldn't have been a good choice. They used to have tight mag wells way back in the day. All of the current lowers are just fine.

Welcome Electron and I do know that "Mike the RO" at TCGC has a Bushy AR 20" complete rifle for sale. He's the older fella with glasses and he's a good guy. You might want to hit him up if you want it and it's a reallly cheap price he's offering.

What they said.....

I have owned Oly, Bushmaster, Stag, and DPMS lowers...haven't had a problem with any of them. In fact, my 1st AR was a post-ban Oly 16" A2, it had one of the nicest receivers of the 7 or 8 that I've owned. I am a beleiver that "OLY SUCKS" is an arfcom perpetuated myth...

I got some parts there a couple of years ago.  Let's just say I don't shop for gun stuff in that part of Hillsburrito any more.

Pat's the best.

Thanks for the heads up on the Bushmaster.  I'm pretty sure I know who you are talking about.  I kind of have my heart set on building one up at this point, if for nothing else to spread the purchase over a couple of months.

Thanks for all the great information.  It's good to have local folks to discuss these things with.  I'm looking forward to meeting you guys sometime.
