I recently traded for my first AR.  It's an A2 with the integral carry handle.  How can I mount optics to this?  Is there a way to mount to the carry handle and keep it low enough that it is usable yet high enough I could still use the iron sights?

Or am I better off swapping the upper out for a flat top upper?

What's the most cost efficient way to swap out for a flat top (A4?) upper?  Maybe a flat top upper with a removable carry handle?

Thanks,
Brian

If its a dot site, then they make drop down mounts that hook to the carry handle.  It will mount the optic just above the handguard.

You can go this way:

or....I have two of these...that I am not using anymore because I have flat-tops)

or it is really easy to buy a CMMG flat-top upper and swap out your A2 upper.

I guess I was too slow getting pictures up.

That's OK I figured you would have had pics up by the time I posted what I did.

I got mine mounted and I don't use it anymore because it's kind of ackward being so high up and I bought a cheap mount so it comes lose after a few rounds.

I got one in that first picture.  Got a cheap little $30 scope to put on it just to see how it sits.  Works okay but it is definitely too tall once you add rings on top of that rail.  I think I'm going to have to find a flat top upper to swap out what I have.
