My MIL has been talking to my wife and telling her how great this "pre-paid" legal service she has is. Here's the site Any imput from anyone with experience on this? |

there was a thread in the GD a while back that was talking about it. I think the general consensus was that "you get what you pay for" which in this case wasn't much. It may work well for every day things like they list on their website
but it may not be adequate for an emergency type situation |
| I'm just thankful that my boss has a few good attorneys lined up. If I'm ever in a bind, I have a pretty good legal team at my disposal.....of course that would shuffle me over from store manager to free labor for awhile, but at least I know I'm pretty well covered. |

It all depends on the company and the attorney you end up with. I have been solicited on several occassions to receive referrals from one of these companies. I wasn't interested due to several factors 1. the payment process was basically a pain in the a**; 2. checking conflicts was difficult; and a few other issues that were more related to the inner workings of our firm. With this in mind, I would guess that an attorney that is a reasonably successful attorney would shy away from these with two exceptions - 1. a new or young attorney trying to develope a client base and/or 2. an attorney in a very small market (like a small Eastern Oregon town). My advice is to try and find an attorney that belongs to a club or organization to which you belong and develope a relationship with him or her. You will likely get the best service at a fairly reasonable price. If you are friends or at least acquaintences you will get good emergency type service (nights and weekends). To get the most out of an attorney client relationship the personality fit is important. All attorneys, whether they admit to it or not, put differing amounts of energy into each case. Having the most expensive attorney that you can't really afford, have a hard time relating to and who doesn't put 110% into your case will not be as good as a less expensive attorney who works really hard and cares about the case. Just my 2 cents. Attorneys are like mechanics. There are good ones and mediochre ones. The good ones are where you find them. |
+1 Not much at all, but they do give you cool cards that you put in your wallet that make you feel all powerful that when someone pisses you off you can sucker punch them and say "WASSSSUP!! I GOTS ME A LAWYER! WHAT NOW BIZTCH? I R TEH SUE J00 |

I have it. My attorney is actually large firm in Portland. They have looked over contracts for me on three occasions. I call them quite often for advice. They will fight any traffic ticket you get. etc. It is nice being able to call an attorney anytime you like and actually getting an answer without it costing anything. I also had them send a letter for me on a couple of occasions threatening a lawsuit. Funny how a letter from a lawyer can make a company make good on what they owe you. |
Should have just complained to PPL and they would have switched you over to a different lawyer. |
I worked for them. That's pretty much a +1. Solved a fair number of things that can be done with a letter or a couple phone calls, but other than that... It always seemed more like a multi-level marketing scheme, but the free will could be worth it, depending on how long you have to sign the contract for.

And a HUGE +1 to all that! Though I might compare us more to doctors than mechanics, because we're going to be poking around in a lot of your tender vittles and it behooves you to have one you're comfortable with. |
