Just wanted to state publicly that Fidel extended a nice favor to myself today. The past two days TF, NoAim, RotorDeamon and myself have been doing some ammo testing at Tri-County. Well yesterday the chronograph had an accident of sorts....... ask NoAim. Well today we ran into Fidel who was in the pistol pits when we were talking about our issue. He pipes up and says "I have one in the car."

Basically he let us borrow it without any hesitation. "Here's my number ........ just call when your done and we'll meet up". It helped with our testing alot.

I just wanted to say thanks Fidel. This is one of the reasons I hang out here, you guys are DAM cool and a good bunch.

Yeah, Fidel is really cool.

And his chrono is impressive. It recorded bullets flying quite high over it, is so simple to set up and it kept working until the sun was down. Later today I'll get my camera pictures downloaded and post that nice snapshot of it.

My first Chrony had a short life.

I set it up about 6ft in front of me.  The tripod wasn't very high, I wasn't using a benchrest so I had to aim down just a little bit to make sure the bullet would travel close enough to the sensor.   I pulled out my pistol (G19 I think) and fired off a Ranger 147g 9mm.    The Chrony shuddered and wobbled.   I thought "WOW -- that muzzle blast really has an impact!"   Upon closer examination, I had put the bullet right through the very back edge of the Crony.  It deformed the metal casing, but none of the electronics were harmed.

A few bullets later I took the whole thing out.   Plastic parts flew everywhere.

Lesson 1:   I suck

Lesson 2:   Use a benchrest

Lesson 3:   The bullets don't have to be REAL close to register with the sensor

Lesson 4:   Don't shoot the Chrony

and now for the pictures...

Lately I keep running into range bums

Shoot, record, shoot, record...

These two entries are interesting...

It looks like this chrono will work out just fine...

This sounds vaguely familiar.  A few years ago, I was working up .223 loads using
AA 2200 and 62grFMJSC bullets.  When I started, the skies were overcast but as time
passed, the clouds started to break.  The sun would shine off and on.  This change in weather
really screwed up the reading of the Chrony.  It displayed velocities for a while, then would display
an error.   I raised the Chrony housing up a *little* bit to get the sensor closer the
bullet path.   I fired a round but the Chrony kept displaying an error.  WTF!
At a cease fire, I got a closer look.   Seems that I put a bullet right through the top of it.
Damn! Called up Chrony and got a new housing for $45.  I wish it was the last time I had shot my chrony..

Yeah, I always make it a point to not hit my chrony with high velocity projectiles.

And the results................
