I sold a gun to a guy in GA. His FFL in GA says he wants a copy of my DL shipped with the gun so that the FFL "has a record of where the gun came from". I'm pretty sure this is BS, but gimme a 2nd opinion before I call BS on the guy. While we're at it, are the rules different for long guns or handguns shipped to an FFL in another state? Thx. |
It is BS, but some dealers freak out about private party transfers. You can have an FFL ship it for you if you don't want to give the DL. I have only done this ONCE and I photo copied it, blackend out the DL# and left my address and photo...info they have anyways. But this was also a $4500 gun sale so I didn't want to F' it up. |

Every state is different, but as an FFL, it is always WISE to cover your @ss with BATFE. I have copied customers ID's and stapled them with the forms on occasion. Not a big deal, he should have already provided YOU with HIS FFL which you need to confirm ON-LINE before shipping. BEST PLACE to check is Gunbroker.com They have GREAT Buying/Selling info.
