With the looming possibility of more bans at the state level (Burdick is in the pocket of the Brady Bunch and tried to ban any magazine over 10 rounds -- no grandfather clause), I've found myself worrying.

It's almost to the point where I don't want to read the forums since it keeps brining up all these possibilities and worst case scenarios.

I have been thinking of buying as many magazines as I can, but then if there is a ban over 10 rounds, all that money would be lost if I comply or I risk serious trouble if I don't.

I kept thinking about this stuff 'til I made myself sick.  I tend to worry to much about things I can't control as it is.

I decided to take some of the money I would have spent on another magazine or whatever and donate it to the Oregon Firearms Federation and I suggest you all do the same.

If everyone took the price of one magazine and used that to donate, we might be able to stop this assault on our rights.

The last time around I was disappointed with my local NRA rep -- he promised to keep me in the loop and I never heard back.  At least OFF seems to keep me informed.

Doing this I at least felt like I had done something positive rather than just worry.

I agree I'm joining up and I'll try to make a nice donation.

Agreed.

Because once it starts,  It won't stop easily.

Every bit helps.  If every black rifle owner sent even $10 that would be something and it doesn't even have to be OFF -- OSSA is another group (it is affiliated with the NRA).

I gave $ to OFF a couple times..............but I havn't heard from them in a long time. They used to send me updates and stuff, I figured I should have got something this last election, but nothing.

I wonder what's going on?

Hmmm -- I don't know.  Well, there's also OSSA -- they have a newsletter every month.

I think its just a mistake somewhere and your name got dropped from their mailing list.
They did send out a few e-mails -- but remember the law now doesn't allow them to do very much during an election period -- God forbid that the electorate should get any information about the candidates other than that out out by the candidates!

Just ask, and they will happily re-instate you on the appropriate lists -- even if you don't send them any  money.

Of course, as was pointed out at the beginning of this thread, the price of one magazine, which Burdick will happily steal from you, might help to make a big difference in the success of her renewed camapign.

Whatever happened to sending your senator a letter?

Mrs Burdick,

I understand your commitment to crime prevention and drug prevention. I wholeheartedly support that something needs to be done about the meth problem in our state. However I am struggling to understand why you would want to step on the bill of rights by proposing this kind of legislature.

I'd like to state that I am a law abiding citizen and am a hobbyist in the area of firearms, and I own a Glock that I employ for self defense. I have no criminal record and no intention of disobeying the law. Can you get a criminal to say the same thing?

We saw the rise and fall of the Brady bill from 1994 to 2004 and the statistical evidence shows that it was innefective.

I would like to ask you this question, Mrs Burdick. how do you plan to get criminals to comply with this legislature that you have proposed? If you have an honest man and a lifetime criminal standing before you, and you ask them both to hand over their possesions due to the decree of the law, do you expect a criminal to comply with a law? In his mind he has nothing else to lose, so why should he?

In austrailia one year ago, over 604,000 guns were surrendered as part of a new law. After one year armed robberies increased 44 percent. I guess criminals didn't like the idea of the government taking their guns away. Either that or they had no fear of resistance.

You can't change people Mrs Burdick, no matter how hard you try. There are other solutions to this problem than taking things from law abiding citizens. Don't kid yourself, that's all that happens when these kinds of laws are passed. There are laws in place that penalize unlawful possesion of firearms by criminals. Sadly, there are also laws in place that penalize citizens that operate within the law. Please dont make more of the latter.

Look at it this way: Lets say you purchased a brand new ferrari, and then the government passed a law outlawing ferraris because there was an increase in high speed car accidents. When the government comes to your house to take your ferrari away from you, without reimbursment or rhyme or reason to support their judgement that a ferrari is too fast for you, think of how you would feel.

I am not a high income person, and It would be more than a small loss for me to surrender what little I own with which to defend myself. I'd like to invite you to come and meet the kind of people that your proposed laws will really affect. I've met alot of hobbyists in my day and they are just like me, people who want to enjoy a hobby that they are passionate about, but will operate within the law, even if it means losing their means of recreation.

I don't have all the answers, Mrs. Burdick. But what I don't understand is why you are making me fight to protect what is mine. I wouldn't do that to you, so please, don't do it to me

Respectfully,
Conju

Don't forget about the tax advantage of donating to OFF.  Basically it's a wash, but instead of the state taking the money you can give it to OFF.
