I posted this because it has some good info links that can help when you fill out your ballot.

Note: I am just the messenger here!  You may not agree with their assessment of Saxton; if so please take it up with OFF.

A Message From OFFPAC. Election Information.
10/26/06

As you know, the elections are upon us.

Most voters have already received their ballots, and it's time to make
the decisions that will decide what kind of government we will have to
live under for the next two years.

Just as the makeup of the US Congress will have a profound effect on
our lives, so too will the makeup of the Oregon legislature.

For some time we have had our  ratings posted for Oregon candidates.
You can view those here: tinyurl.com/l2oq9

Now, Gun Owners of America has released their candidate grades for
Congressional candidates. Those can be viewed here
tinyurl.com/unb5r

OFF PAC urges you to exercise your right to vote and be a part of the
process. If you feel that you don't have sufficient information about a
candidate, we strongly urge you to contact them. Remember, they are
asking you to hire them to do a job. A job that will effect your rights
and freedoms.

You can find contact information for all candidates here
tinyurl.com/yyv9wm.

If you are unsure of what district you are in, you can use this link to

Your efforts in the past have prevented the anti-gun forces in the
Oregon legislature from gaining any ground, but we have already been
informed by an Oregon legislator that Senator Ginny Burdick, (whose
only interest is new gun control) has anti-gun legislation ready for
introduction.

In fact, she may try to introduce it BEFORE the next session begins.
If that happens, we'll let you know. So you can see,  who you elect
will be very important.

Neither of the major party candidates for Governor can be viewed as
friends of gun owners. Neither would answer our brief survey.

While Ted Kulongoski recently sent a letter to some voters claiming
he'd applied for a concealed handgun license, he has made it quite
clear in the past that he is no friend of gun owners.

Ron Saxton got high praise from the NRA, but they ignored his past
support for radical anti-gunners like Burdick and Earl Blumenauer.

See "NW Republican's" reporting on Saxton's record here
tinyurl.com/ymowzv

Here, "NW Republican's" blogger , Ted Piccolo notes   "For there
is the unique way in which Mr. Saxton has been able to take both sides of
various issues. Conservative when speaking to conservatives yet liberal
when voting or speaking to liberals."

Unless a pro-gun, minor party candidate beats the odds and becomes
governor, we will not have a friend in the governor's mansion next
year.

That's why the makeup of the legislature will be so important.

Please be sure to be involved this election.

Do read the link to the analysis of Saxton's position.
Note also the total absense of any comment on the 2nd in any of his electoral commentary.
Somehow, he gets the nod from the NRA...

Contrast him with another candidate who has this on her website, and in the voter's pamphlet:

Right To Bear Arms
The right to keep arms for defense of self and others is fundamental for free people. Both the US and the Oregon Constitution protect this God-given right. Oregonians should not be forced to defend one of their most basic rights- to own, carry and if necessary use a firearm for self defense or sport.

The relentless attacks on our gun rights come from federal and state legislators, anti- gun activists and even groups that purport to be defenders of 2nd amendment rights.
As Oregon governor I will make it a chief priority to defend gun owner's rights and promise to veto any legislation which undermines the God-given right of Oregonians to bear arms.

Mary doesn't even get a mention by the NRA...

Think long and hard before dwaring your line on that ballot paper.

ETA: Just in case you don't read the links, one takeaway for you: Saxton has personally contributed to Burdick's campaign in the past. At a time when her primary aim in life was well known.

Because they won't advocate anyone who can't actually win.  That's their stand, not mine, so let's not start the debate.  We've probably already drawn the attention of Cape though...

And I'll toss Morley out there to balance the nod to Mary.

If France thought that way,  we'd still be British....

No way will I vote for Saxton.

It's much easier to stop anti-gun legislation when it's from the demons. When a "republican" pushes gun control the party most often falls in behind them.

Keep anti-gun "republicans" out of ANY position of power at all costs or they will change the makeup and direction of the party. The last thing we need are two anti-gun political parties.

Imagine if all the anti-gun people in Sherwood had joined Tri-county, legally (by vote)  took over the board, and then shut the range down. That's what the anti-gun "republicans" are up to.

Someone needs to send that quote to the NRA.

Interesting (and well-taken) point.
