Since the message I spent time writing ended up being dropped on the floor as the thread was locked while I was writing it - here is the response again. Lets not get this thread locked too -- I don't think Peta could face three in one day. --------------------------------------------------- I am not getting offended by what you say (NoAim). You have as much right to have your say as I do (even if you are wrong ).The only reason I havn't gone to any board meetings is, as I mentioned before, the time they are held is impossible for me (in general). It took me several YEARS before I was free on the Nth Wednesday of the month to be able to sign up as a member! I don't have any deep insight, other than, as I already mentioned, the mutating arguments, the desire to redefine what a muzzle break is, and comments made by certain board members who did a Q and A session when I signed up, and exposed a lot of predjudices and gave patently wrong answers to people: Question :"Can I shoot a suppressed rifle here?" - Answer: "Oh no. They are illegal, you have to have a class III FFL license to even possess one, there is no class III stuff allowed here!!" A certain range officer then spoke about the need to keep "noisy" rifles confined to the remote end of the ranges -- it came over as the need to keep the riff-raff from disturbing the real shooters. Like you, I will continue to shoot wherever I like. I will avoid setting up next to someone already there, I will try to keep an empty position to my right to avois spraying someone with brass -- but if the CHOOSE to go there when other positions are empty, I have no sympathy, and if anyone complains about my flash suppressor, I will either replace it with my suppressor (if I have it with me), or simply remove it and let them then deal with the blast that results. I expect to get precicely nowhere unless I turn up to a board meeting, and even then probably nowhere, since the indications are that the board itself is divided. I may just pass on Cape's suggestion of movable screens -- its the best idea I have heard yet, and should shut up the complainers, as well as giving some real relief to anyone truely suffering from blast from muzzle breaks -- also from getting sprayed with brass. In the longer term, IMHO, we, the AR community, need to spend time and energy getting a few representatives sitting on the board. |
Please don't, it's gay to have to put up screens....just think, your shooting, then the guy to your right looks at you funny and brings over a screen....that's just rude. I think TCGC better get up with the times....I thought long and hard about renewing my membership this year. In fact, I sent the check the very last day. These old farts are off their rockers. |

I do have sympathy for people who get sprayed with my brass -- not so much if they put themselves in that position, but definately if its the last position open, or I take the last position and start spraying the poor guy who was there before me. I did have someone, a couple of days ago, plonk himself down in the next but one position (to my left - so no brass) who after a few minutes built a screen using old cardboard targets etc. between our positions, because of the "blast" from my AR. In truth, there was much more blast from his deer rifle, but he was only firing one shot every minute or so. I was firing off 5 round groups, maybe 2 seconds between. When he wanted to go change his target (because it had about three holes in it) he even made some comment about it giving my barrel time to cool off. I put the suppressor back on and that seemed to quieten him down a little. If having a screen, that someone like that can drag into position, keeps him happy, why not? |
I wish to hell I could get a job that didn't require so much travel. I assure you I would be active at the TCGC meetings and would try to position myself as an eventual board member. As it is I am ALWAYS gone when they have their meetings.![]() I think the screens are a fine idea. I'd prefer to know I'm not pissing anyone off when I shoot. |
