I am new to the AR15 so I found this site to get some information. It looks like I have a lot to learn from some people here. My stats are: 20 something, male, self employed, and living in Douglas County. Oh, and single in case any of you know some hot young ladies who enjoy shooting and football.

Anyways, I just purchased a Colt M4 with a TAO1-NSN Acog on it. I went to sight it in at 100 yards this morning. Then I got to thinking. Is the rangefinding reticle on the Acog for yards or meters. Not that it matters, just don't want to sound like an idiot.

Hopefully I can make it to a shoot one of these days and pick up a few pointers.

I believe the only one that comes in meters are the ones for the Marines, the RSO I do believe

It's in meters. Here is the info you need for "your" scope. It may be different for other ACOG models.

For a Carry Handle 16" or 14.5" firing M193:
Sight in .25" low at 100m. You'll be an 1" at 200, 2" high at 300 and 400 and then within MOA out to 600.

For a Flattop 16" firing M193:
Sight in at 100 per your manual. You'll be a half-inch high at 300, dead on at all other ranges until 500. At 500, the M193 starts losing juice fast on this trajectory, you'll be 2" low at 500 and 9" low by 600.

For a Carry Handle 16" firing M855:
Sight in 0.1" high at 100 - this will give you a profile very close to the carry handle shooting M193.

For a Flattop 16" firing M855:
Sight in per your manual. If you can notice this difference on the BDC you don't need to be asking me for advice.

Thanks for the info.  Since I have been dubbed the 'Shakiest Gun in the West' the difference between yards and meters has no practical application. Just something interesting to know.

I will check my calender and see if I can make it on the 21st.  Now it's off to San Diego for a little sun, surf, and football.
