I cant go to one since they're on a Saturday and I have to work

What are the ranges of targets?   I would assume 25, 50, 100 and ? yards?????

Trying to figure out what optics to setup if I ever get to go to one.

Ranges have varied from 10 to 350 yards. That's the fun part, always something different and challenging.
Optics wise, a lot of guys are running CQB stuff ( like Eotechs or Aimpoints ) or a low-powered scope ( 1.5-4x ). Myself........irons......hey, I'm cheap. Although, this month's match winner was using irons too.....something to think about.

And at least get off early for Dec. !!!!! Night Match sign in starts @ 4pm.......

yeah - not on a traditional KD range.  even when they are close, they are not at exact ranges.

e.g.  I think this weekend there was a stage with targets at 80, 120, 180...  +/- depending on whos laser you were shooting at them.

lots of guys  seem to do well with the Leupold CQ/T since it gives variable power.  But lots of guys do just fine with irons.

I've only seen one CQT out there.

How big are the targets used at 100+ ?   Hopefully bigger than clay pigeons.

Cant go to night shoots either, I work graveyard shift.   It'll be a couple months before ANY vacation days open up.     I couldnt even take a Wednesday off right now without calling in sick.

10 and 8" steel resets IIRC.

Then get pretty small out past 200+

You would see more if they would answer my numerous email requests and make it mount lower!!!!!!!

Bastards!

I use one, and I know at least 2 or 3 others that have in the past.

I feel your pain, although I've never had the balls to email them about it.

I like a firm cheek weld myself.  Never was in love with the top of my stock at chin level

you're just in the wrong squads.

there were 3 in the squad I was in.

many of the 3-gun types seem to like them so if mr 45 is looking at purpose built that is one way to go.

I think the CQT is out of my price range.   I currently run an Eotech but was thinking about adding LaRue mounts and a scope with QD rings so I could carry it in an ammo pouch and swap as the stage dictates.   The LaRue setup would keep both zeroed.

I believe that the rule is that you must use the same sight on all the stages. There have been exceptions when an electronic or optical sight breaks, they sometime let the person finish with back-up irons. I believe they get scored with the optical  when that happens.

Sounds like an ACOG would be teh best of both worlds.    Now if they'd only sell em for $300ish

Actually an ACOG with a Doctor reflex ontop would be nice. I am planning somthing similer. Though instead of an ACOG I may go with a IOR 3x25 Tactical scope. Cheaper and more compact then the CQT but most imprtantly it sits lower!

Eotech is coming out with a magnifier, be at shot show in January.

Aimpoint has the 3x magnifier, which I will be running one of these days.

The Eo magnifier will not attatch to a current unit, you have to buy the whole new setup.   And putting an aimpoint mag behind an Eo is just plain wrong

More precisely, you can not change the configuration of your gun in mid-match.  For example, if you have a bi-pod, you must leave it on or take it off before the match.  You may  have more than one sight on your gun (lots of guys have both red-dots and magnifying optics), but you can't start removing and adding optics, uppers, bi-pods, etc.

Guys, it's only 200 yards. Hell, people are hitting that with irons!

One of my first PR matches (2001? 2002?) had a 595 yard shot on a steel silhouette (IPSC/head-torso) - not so easy with my eyes and iron sights.

I took 9th at the last match with a 35$ hako red dot on a pos waser ak47.
I have nice ar set ups with eotechs but they are not as fun as the ak.
Its not so much the gun as it is the shooter, it took me a while to figure that out.
Just come out with what you have and have fun.

another option (hey CAPE, it is lower!) is the trijicon accupoint 1.25-4x24...  gives a variable mag with a dot/chevron/etc.
