Need help. Took down the AR yesterday for cleaning. Didn't disturb the lower half. Put the gun back together and it fails the function test. Safety works. with trigger pulled, cocked the gun and am supposed to get a small click as trigger slowly released. Instead the hammer falls. Took it apart and put back together with same results. Any ideas.  Blackgun
PS daughter continues to improve but could only do half day at work today then home to drugs.

It sounds like your trigger spring may not be installed correctly.
ETA:I think munkalido has it correct

sound like the disconnector spring isn't there.  The disconnector keeps the hammer from falling while the B/C goes into battery.  Letting off the trigger after battery allows the trigger to catch the hammer notch and hold it until the trigger is squeezed again.  And if that spring isn't there, pushing up on the disconnector, all the above doesn't work and the hammer rides the carrier until carrier goes all the way forward then falls... (or binds up on the firing pin if not shrouded by the carrier)

thanks guys. Took the disconnecter out and the spring may have broke. It doesn't seem to stick up enough to put much tension on the disconnecter. Will try the local smith for a new spring.
