While going home after the shoot today, I saw a newer white Tahoe (00-05) with bling wheels pulled over around MP 63 east bound hwy 26.  I'm pretty sure it was the same rig that was at the shoot.  They had the off ramp closed with about 5-6 police cars.  Anyone else see it??

Wonder if the sheriff taking plates #'s had anything to do with it....

Nox and I left around 4:45pm or so. Hwy 6 was seriously backed up due to an accident at one of the "stores" involving at least an RV and car. Other than that....

I don't know.  Maybe it was the 20 or so AR's, AK's and every handgun made.  Or maybe it was the full auto fire.  Or maybe it was the dog house that was blown to smithereeens.  I just don't know.

(the timing on blowing the hell out of the doghouse couldn't have been better)

For the rest... if there's a knock at your door early in the AM, it just might not be the Avon lady.

That guy has been out there before with a Valmet M78 that he said belongs to his dad.

He really didn't seem to know what he was shooting.  I thought it was a pretty nice piece to toss in the back of the truck and take up to the gravel pit.

So is was confirmed that he had a stolen rifle?

He told both Spambo and myself that his father bought  both the Valmet and Mac 11 for $400.  Hello the valmet will go for 1K or better by itself.  If it's too good to be true it's most likely hot!

not ARFCOM members,
I talked with a few of the guys, one commented that he was visiting from California, the other said he went to the quarry regularly and couldn't believe how many people were there today. Neither had any real gun experience so I let them shoot my AR and pistol, gave a little gun eduaction and familiarization. I saw them pulled over too.
Let's not assume they are gang members or such because they appear hispanic. I saw the crowd out there today and I think it could be assumed most of you were rednecks but we won't do that either...

There has to be more to this story. Its hard to believe that much attention from the police resulted from just one stolen rifle.

Also odd that a sheriff's deputy should just happen along to investigate the full-auto fire and explosions on his own, not actually bother to ask about the explosives or legality of full-auto weapons, and then spot one rifle among the many there, and recognise it as being stolen.

This may turn out to be interesting when the full story comes out.

---------

BTW: regarding rednecks.

This is a favorite slur from the liberal crowd. Next time you hear it, put them firmly and publicly in their place: The redneck culture is just as valid as any other, the speaker would never denigrate african cultures, asian cultures, native american cultures in this way, so what exactly is their problem with redneck culture?? Their intolerant and derisive dismissal of the culture is a disgrace, approaching culturaly inspired hate speech. Evil, biased, nasty little libs!!!

They had so many cars there because they knew they had guns and where not going to take any chances. The gang unit was there as well. That is why I said they where gang members, because they were ID'd as such by the gang unit. A news crew was there as well so we may see some news on it.

I dont think it was so much the fact the officer reconized a stolen gun as much as a name popping up  on when he ran the plates. If they got a hit on the plate, say prior felon, and then knew there were firearms, then it all kinda comes together. I doubt they would come rolling into hte pit ot make any arrest like that. Tooooo much to have ot control.
I dont think it was odd that the sherrif came out at all. With that much firepower and the neverending crowd of spectators and traffic, it is bound to rub sombody raw.

In a small way my hats off to the you all! The Oregon ARFCOM crowd got enough of attention of the sherrif to run our plates, and in doing so found a turd in the mix. Pretty funny actually.

BTW, I HATE bangers. FUxk him and the hoe he rode in on!

Ok guys...  everyone take off the tinfoil hats.

I did some checking and let me clear something up.

The Tillamook deputy had nothing to do with the traffic stop by Washington county on the tahoe.

One of the guys at the shoot was off duty and looked at the rifle...  and like a lot of us on this board, didn't think that the $2800 valmet matched up with the kid shooting it.  He ran the number and the gun was hot.

The valmet was stolen in a burglary in Portland in 95.  There will be a very happy gun owner out there somewhere.

Keep an eye on this page for the press release some time later today:  www.co.washington.or.us/cgi/mediaidx.pl?searchstring=sheriff+june+2005+

Off Duty Deputy Helps Recover Stolen Weapon

WASHINGTON COUNTY - - An off duty deputy was target shooting at Brown’s Camp in Western Washington County on Sunday June 26, 2005, when he had the opportunity to observe four young men, one of who was in possession of a 308-caliber Valmet rifle.

The deputy made a mental note of the serial number and following up on a hunch, he had the serial number run through a database that keeps track of stolen weapons. Sure enough the weapon was reported stolen in Portland in 1995.

The deputy left Brown’s Camp as did the four young men in possession of the stolen weapon. The four young men left in an SUV. The off duty deputy alerted deputies who were on shift and they made a traffic stop of the SUV near NW Shute Road and Highway 26. The four young men were questioned and the weapon was seized for evidence.

During the investigation it was learned that 308-caliber Valmet rifle belonged to the father of one of the young men. The father said he bought it from a co-worker several years ago, a co-worker who no longer works with him.

The investigation is continuing.

Yes.  He's a good guy.  long time firearms enthusiast.  I'm sure he wasn't running around writing down serial numbers.  He was just out there to shoot and have a good time.  There were probably several LE out there having fun.

The young guy with the $2800 valmet that only cost $400 is what probably piqued his interest.

Like I said...  put away the tinfoil.  and really -  Why would Wash Co care what you did in Tillamook Co enough to send someone out to the woods just to sneak a look at your guns?  give me a break.
