I've got an entry level gas pressure washer similar to this:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Excell-3100-PSI-2-8-GPM-Gas-Pressure-Washer-PWZ0163100-02/202762810

I have had it for 6 or 7 years. It has a honda GX engine on it and has been very reliable. I have alot of pavement and would like to step up. Is there really a difference between 3000PSI and 3400, 3800, etc?

What would be a stepup? Right now I am sweeping bleach solution on then using a 15" surface cleaner. Its pretty time consuming.

More Pressure equals less work by you  and a deeper clean. Gpm is also important the bigger the flow the better.

Well..kind of!

The big gain is gpm! I have a 4500psi hot water unit and it's a hoss!

If I bought again I would get a belt drive 3000psi and decent gpm. If your just cleaning around your house then it won't make a huge difference besides speed

The real tool to get is the surface cleaner! Makes quick work out of decks, driveways etc.

And as with all tools- don't buy them at Home Depot/lowes if you want them to last

No machine below a 4 GPM and 3000 PSI is going to offer much over any other machine in that price range. I own a pressure washing company. Under the $1200 price range they are all about the same.
