I was looking at joining GSSF. I looked at the list of matches on the web sight. It looks like one or two are close but the rest would require traveling. Is there more smaller local matches than what is listed on the GSSF page? I just didnt know if the Glock GSSF page only lists the major events and maybe smaller local events were more common. How does it work?

The website lists all the outdoor matches and I usually shoot the local ones. There are also a fair number of local indoor matches listed as well.

I've been a member for almost 20 years and recently became a life member.

Where can i get info about the local indoor events? Is it anything you could share with me?

The Mobile match is an easy ride and well ran . Montgomery is even closer . There are a few others outside the state that are an easy ride and you can make a nice day trip out of .I have been a GSSF shooter since 97-98 .

There should be a link on the GSSF website regarding the indoor league. It's OK from time to time but most people like the outdoor matches better.  Most people only shoot a handful of matches due to the travel. What's listed on the website for outdoor matches is it, occasionally they add a few throughout the year. I generally shoot about six or seven a year andI am willing to travel about three hours one way for a match. Anything more than that I have to really think about it. The prizes are great and the courses of fire are generally the same with some minor adjustments, so you can track your progress easily with scores from match to match. In Georgia, Dawsonville will be in July and the Glock annual shoot will be in Griffin in September which is their largest match. Also relatively close by are Montgomery and Tallahassee in February, Morganton North Carolina in April, Nashville in June, Charleston in October, Talledega in November

Orlando is coming up at the end of the month, but I won't make it.  At the rate I am going, July is going to be the next match I attend.  It's been a few years since I shot the matches consistently due to son, career changes, etc.

The indoor matches and the outdoor matches are two entirely different animals.  The indoor matches are more like a qualification course in that you have par times at each distance. The highest score wins.

In the outdoor matches, everything is against the timer, and points at time.  The lowest time wins.

That being said, you stand a good chance of winning pistols and other prizes at both.  I shot GSSF for several years and won five pistols and enough money that twice I had to pay income tax on my winnings.

And I am over 15 years shooting GSSF and have never won a gun. The prizes once you are not the winner are random . My GF won a pistol at her first shoot . I have won a lot of checks and other prizes over the years

Same boat here.  Most valuable prizes I have won were a GSSF cap and a Glock knife.  Most cash I have won is $50.  Maybe I should take my wife so she can win a new pistol?

I won two pistols as random prizes (one outdoor, one indoor).  I have won three outdoor matches and had numerous money finishes as well.  Somewhere along the way I randomly won some money and a two-year membership.

I haven't shot a match in couple of years.  Several times I have made plans to make a match only to have those plans dashed.  My weekends aren't as free as they used to be.

That's something I always intended to do but it never happened.
