What was so great about it? What are the big differences to what we have now?

How many people on here do you know outside of online? Maybe 40 or so. I missed a few gatherings and classes.... so it was a tighter knit at the range? More shootouts? You know 40, but how many do you hang out with on a regular basis? I've met you several times, but I don't "know" you. Eta, my point is when I first started here and went to the guest shoot, everyone knew everyone, everyone hung out outside of the GaHTF, everyone was friends. That being the way it as nothing was really taken out of context because you knew the person writing it. Plus there weren't a bunch of keyboard commandos trolling everyone. You could come here for better tech help than on the tech forums and you knew the person giving the advice. Much more laid back back then. |

this place has changed quite a bit, the Augusta area guys still hang out, we have people come and go, but that's life. I'm not sure about the laid back or fair part, we had some solid guys here that left, we had some guys people didn't care for leave, but the elitist attitude of 'undesirables" is the reason most folks have left. people complained about get togethers, bbq's, off gun subjects, bolt face sightings etc...........when we have technical forums all over the place. I point blank asked ask about that, and never got an answer on whether or not the htf was a tech forum or a place for Ga. guys to hang out. I understand that I'm not liked by the elite or liberals here and could care less.
the last shoot at Ashleys, this was brought up, lots of folks talking about this subject. I like it here, there house, there rules, so I try to stay in line. the ar15.com HTF is fun, you say what you like and not get banned. overall, I have met some outstanding people here, and glad to be part of it |

Is the GAHTF a tech forum? The site views it as one. But, the real answer is a little complex. I guess the easiest way I can answer it is this little corner of the site belongs to us, and we can talk about what we want. Period. We are Georgia. This forum is about us, not our topics. However, if a member has a serious question, it's best to stay on topic. Especially if something could be dangerous. |
I agree it's about Ga. and when folks ask questions about anything firearm related, people post in and help out. with all the tech forums here on ARFCOM I see the Ga HTF as a place for the Ga or anyone else to come hang out and BS about other things. there are/were some that did complained about eat and greets, etc.......how are other members supposed to meet each other if those threads are allowed![]()
when good guys like Emu get hammered from the elite, I was done caring about this place. Steve is a stand up guy and was treated like the peasants we are. I can understand him not coming around much anymore, lots of others feel the same way, over half of the Augusta area guys never, or very rarely post here any longer. that's their choice. that's just one area in the state, something to think about. no place is perfect, I understand that, I like coming here and seeing what is going on around the state |
|
I used to check this forum a few times a day. Now I check it a few times a week. There are few left from the OG ARFCOM days, but that's the nature of internet forums. People come and go.
Not much was different. We had trolls. I was one of them. We had really knowledgeable guys. Some are still here. We had get togethers. I never went anyways. |

Well said Vote.
Hopefully this weekends HTF shoot will bring back some of the energy the HTF has lost. I sure hope it does; thats what I was trying to accomplish with the shoot at my place, and is the reason I do my best to go to any and every event that is made known on here. The Facebook group was made to keep people more in the loop of who everyone was and to get names to faces/screen names. I know that some traffic there lowers the amount here, but it was never done to take anything away from the ARFCOM HTF, only to supplement it. |

The FB page gets a fair amount of attention and may be taking some of the traffic away from the HTF. Hopefully this weekends HTF shoot will bring back some of the energy the HTF has lost. this is my opinion, but folks can say what they truly feel on the facebook site, here not so much. either way, i can keep up with what's going on in Ga. |

| In ten years this will be the good old days . There used to be more meet and greet lunch events and things like that than there are now . I remember A couple of shoots at the national forest range in NW Ga. many years ago , the turnout was small but we had a great time . |

overall, I have met some outstanding people here, and glad to be part of it I agree. I have met a good number of ya'll . I have enjoyed speaking with all I have met in person. Even a couple who have been banned from here. They were not honest to goodness assholes they just had opinions that were not politically correct for the site at the correct moment. I respect that. We had a HTF member who got as close to a permaban as you can get and he is a damn nice guy in real life. I am meeting up with an arfcommer in Texas on Thursday, I am willing to bet he is a good guy too. |

Being on the new side, I can't speak about the past but having said that, when do you guys think it started to change? As BTB said, maybe it had to do with how expensive thing became all of a sudden so it started around the time the bottom fell out of the economy, Nobama was elected causing gas prices, ammo prices, and firearms prices to go though the roof! If people have to chose between keeping the wife happy taking her out to dinner or being able to use 500 rounds on a weekend, most are out to dinner and not at a shoot. Same can be said for even meeting for lunch if filling up the truck with $4 a gallon gasoline and spending more then $5 on an extra value meal for lunch is going to be an issue, people are not going to meet as much. Or it could simply be that those that were great organizers moved on to other things and nobody stepped up to take their place. Can't blame that or the above on the HTF. I have not met a single person on ARFCOM or the HTF that told me to lose their number after having lunch with them, shooting with them, traveling to an event with them, or trading with them. There are just plain good and like minded people on here. And sure we don't all agree with everything, but when we do disagree, we realize its each others right to disagree and we can still meet and have lunch together. |
