So I was telling my wife this morning about trying to buy enough small flashlights to put in the pocket of every jacket/coat that I use. This way I always have a light with me. Mainly to use just in case, never know. She rolls her eyes at me and shakes her head. The one I bought yesterday was a Rayovac aluminum body with strike bezel, uses 1 AA battery (included) for $2.00 at Wal-Mart. 19 lumens but still enough light to get around with.
Anyone else do this, always carry a pocket light? |

I've been carrying a Surefire LX2 Lumax for probably 6-7 years before that an old E2E I got from PSI. While pricey a Surefire will last you a very looong time.
ETA: If you want a great keychain light this one is by far the best/most compact I've ever used. I've had mine for over a year with no issues. http://www.velenodesigns.com/?p=168 |

My streamlight Strion LED is ALWAYS in the left front pocket of my pants. Prior to that I carried a Mini Maglite for longer than I can remember.
I consider a flashlight just as essential as: a pocketknife, a flashdrive, a 10' tape measure, a jeweler's loupe (yes, I am a jeweler), a bic lighter (no I don't smoke), a hideout $100 bill in my wallet, and several pieces of expendable gold jewelry (in case $100 is not enough). I need to replace my 3" adjustable wrench that got misplaced the other day. If I don't have all of the above, on my person, every day, I feel underdressed! |

Still not sure what I want to replace it with. |

I carried a LX2 Luminax also for 4 years or so...unfortunately I managed to misplace it a couple months ago. Still not sure what I want to replace it with. Unfortunately no, didn't go. Honestly while I like the light I hate the pocket clip. I've broken 4 of them and Surefire quit responding to my emails about a replacement. I just swapped the pocket clip from my old E2E and have been carrying bezel up. If I was in the market I'd be thinking hard about getting the new E1D 300 lumens or the new EB2T with 500 and just swap out my clip when it breaks. I've heard the E1 bezel down clip is much stronger though. ETA: I was looking at SF's website, it seems they've downgraded the low on two stage lights to 5 lumens which just seems dumb. The 15 on the LX2 was almost perfect, I'd actually prefer a little more maybe 20, but 5 lumens is just ridiculous. It would only really be useful in full dark with your eyes adjusted. |
| On my keychain is a well worn Streamlight Nano. I received it as a gift and thought it was just cute but not a real light. I was wrong, that has been the handiest little light and surprisingly bright for its size. Bought a few more of them and clipped them on jackets and packs just in case the need arises. |
| I've got a decent variety of flashlights strewn about as well. Mostly in drawers and such, but I've got one in each vehicle, and I'd have one hanging by each door if she'd let me. Just like each vehicle has a pocket knife somewhere in it, and I used to have a small tool kit and first aid in each one as well, but they've mysteriously disappeared. I don't usually have a flashlight in a pocket wherever I go, but I've always got one close enough that I can get it in a few minutes if I need it. |

Streamlight Micro has served me well. Yep. I carry one pretty much all the time. http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=144 |

Surefire E1D Instead of putting one in each coat pocket, just get accustomed to keeping one with your wallet and keys.
That is what I do. If I were in dress pants most of the time I would get the surefire without sharp bezels. The sharp bezels are rough on light duty pants. |
| For the time being (cold weather), I would rather have it in a jacket pocket than in my pants pocket. When I get to work, I dump my keys, wallet and pistol into a desk drawer. I don't like having things in my pockets, although both front pockets hold a knife with a clip on them. Once it warms up, I will look at something else low profile but strong enough light to have on my person. |

I carry a Streamlight Nano on my keys and a ProTac2aa everyday(doubles as my work light, very heavy use) Never been let down by either. My 2aa survived my motorcycle wreck with me a couple years ago.
ETA: Also keep a PolyTac in the car and a couple Stingers at the house. |
| Streamlight 1AA here, I've almost worn it shiny all over from carrying it. I usually keep it clipped inside my side pocket. Plenty of light for everyday use and you can get them ~$35 on amazon or places that sell tactical lights. I like the AA over a 123 just because everywhere has AA batteries plus most of my work stuff that uses batteries are AAs. |
|
I tried carrying one on my person every day, but it just got in the way; I didn't have enough occasions to use it where my cellphone wouldn't do the trick. What I do now is keep a small kit with a Maratac AAA flashlight, a multi-tool, and some other odds and ends in my laptop bag. I've got three or four similar ones set up at this point, and I keep one in my work bag, one in the trunk of my car, and one in a backpack I use for weekend road travel. I've got a couple of Preons with click caps tucked in drawers as well, so I end up having a flashlight close to hand wherever I spend most of my time.
Let's see - the one from my work bag is an old memory card holder, about 2"X4", and it's got the flashlight, a mini pry-bar, a fisher pen, a Gerber Dime, a flash drive, and a bit of paracord woven into a pull. The kit in the trunk is larger and more robust. I tried some of the under $10 keychain flashlights that run on watch batteries, and they kept falling apart or running down unexpectedly, so I swapped up to AAA and AA based lights. |

I bought 15 of these,They were $3.00 each delivered. They reside in every bag and vehicle I own. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n599/cpl0313/C7A3CC3A-3B06-488E-8490-BFB04C2A8286_zpsmcmfynxe.png I buy a similar unit but without the serrated front and leave them in my pocket rather than on the clip. |

Found the Defiant Compact Tactical (53 Lumens, 1 AA) on sale at Home Depot after Christmas a few years ago at 50% off so they were like $3 each (think they are $7 or $8 now). Bought one for every vehicle, purse, and male in the family. Three years and don't think anybody has replaced the AA battery yet even though it says 1.5 hour run time. Of course I don't think any of us have just left it on continuous to verify total continuous run time. The better half and I also carry the Streamlight Pro Tac 2L because it uses the same battery as our weapons lights. Hat tip to CMSHOOT for the personal carry recommendation. |
| I carry a 1-AAA flashlight all the time. I use it more than I do my knife. I have a Fenix LD-01 I carried so long the finish is rubbed off, and then had a Preon P1, but I really like the Olight i3S ($25 at going gear). Just throw out the keychain that comes with it, add a small split ring and a gutted paracord lanyard. I banished all my CR123 SF lights to my hunting packs (E1B, old 6P). I also have a Zebralight 1-AA model that puts out 200 lumens. If it accidently comes on in your pocket it will burn your leg! |

What's the fbi statistic of the percentage of gun fights that happen in low light situations?
That's not the reason I carry a flashlight, I carried one way before I was old enough to carry a gun. However I took one low light pistol class and my eyes were opened to the need to have one while carrying a gun. |

Low light pistol class sounds really intriguing. Where did you take that class? I took mine from Joe at creekside. And as cheap of a person that I am I will tell you that the day after I took that class I put night sights on every pistol I own. And if you know me you know that's saying a lot! Very eye opening experience.... |

I remember that, Joe asked if anyone had a laser and yours was so dim you could barely see it. I had crimson trace grips on my 1911 and it shined like, well, a laser. Quoted:
