Any experience with the Diamondback DB9? A guy at the range yesterday showed it to me and said he hated it and offered to let me shoot it. He commented about how horrible the gun felt, due to recoil, when he shot it. I ran a magazine through it and pondered about how it would compare to the maybe or maybe not to be produced G43 in 9mm. I asked him if he wanted to sell it and he said to make him an offer, so I offered $225 for it and he accepted. I've learned already that it is picky on ammo, particularly with the shape of the bullet's it's being fed. I'll definitely try a couple different defense loadings and ensure functionability prior to carrying it. I've read about durability issues, especially with older guns that have two pins near the trigger instead of three. This one is the older two pin model.
This is intended to essentially replace my Ruger LCP as a pocket/ankle gun since it is chambered in a ballistically superior cartridge in a similarly sized package...NOT a range/fun gun, as I agree, it IS painful to shoot. Any comments/suggestions about the Diamondback DB9? |
| I have one and have about 250 rounds through it, did it in two session with some friends. on 2 occasions i had failure to extrct, but, both times the gun was extremely hot, too hot to touch. I need to shoot it more and keep it cool to see if its just a heat/expansion problem or something else. There isn't a lot of metal there. It eats Winchester Ranger 115's just fine, standard pressure. |
| I appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely put a few more rounds through this thing before I decide to trust it. The reviews I've read online range from "This is the worst thing ever" to "This thing is AWESOME!" I guess I'll be forced to come to my own conclusion with this particular gun. |

To follow up with this and provide my experience thus far...
Pistol nosedives JHP ammunition when the magazine is loaded to full capacity (6). Every time. When the magazine is loaded with JHP ammunition to less than full capacity (5 or less), it has functioned flawlessly through 30 rounds. I know this isn't an exhaustive test, but Federal HST ammunition isn't cheap. It has fired ~100 rounds of 147gr FMJ mouse-fart handloads without any malfunctions, even with the magazine loaded to full capacity. One hand or two hand grip on the pistol hasn't made any difference in function, with either FMJ or JHP. Pistol is VERY accurate for the small package. I was surprised at how accurately I was able to fire the pistol from 15 to 25 yards. Groups roughly 2.5" from 15 yards with the Federal HST (6 shot group). I'm still on the fence about my thoughts on this little pistol. I'm not sure if I should trust it, knowing that it needs to be loaded to 5+1 instead of 6+1 for "so far" uninterrupted function. I like the fact that the 9x19mm has more muzzle energy from this 3" barreled pistol than either a .380 ACP or a .38 SPL+P loading in a similarly sized gun. I'm debating selling this one along with my .380 and 38 SPL to fund a S&W M&P340 (in 357), which is arguably what I should have done in the first place for a pocket/ankle gun. But that size gun in 357 has its drawbacks as well....Decisions decisions. |
