OK, I need a new prop for my boat. I have a Grizzly 16/56 side console semi v welded jon boat with a 1999 25hp johnson 2 stroke.
Boat and gear are near 1500lbs I have trouble getting out of the hole and on plane. The current prop is 10x13 3 blade. I was thinking of going up to a 4 blade but unsure on pitch... Can anybody help with that ? |

I believe you go down in pitch slightly when going to a 4 blade hi thrust prop.

.
New prop could help some, giving up top speed (doesn't really matter in a jon boat) to get more starting thrust. If its taking a really long time to get on plane and the front stays up for a really long time, I would look at weight redistribution first. If you, the motor, and fuel are all back at the transom, then more weight needs to be up front and a different prop is only going to slightly help as the real issue could be to much weight in the back 50% of the boat. |

It need more motor but then I could not use it on lake juliette it is regulated to 25hp.
I do keep weight in front as much as i can. It will plane out faster if i get up and move my weight closer to the front. I think a prop will fix the issue as the current prop likes the top end as I can run 38mph according to gps. I also have a jack plate now so i can fine tune motor height I may also install tilt trim kit. |

I don't believe changing the prop on a 25hp outboard is going to help a lot, but it might...not sure I'd spend the money to find out, though. I'd consider one of the whale-tail/hydrofoils for the motor, should help you get on plane a little quicker. Being able to fine-tune your trim will also help. My brother has a 16' V-hull Fisher with a 4-stroke Mercury 25hp, and it tops out at 21mph on GPS. |

We had a similar problem with an old boat we had and one of those wake plate fin things really improved on plane times. I don't remember it being all that expensive either. |
