I have only ever seen 1 my entire life here in Georgia, and it was a dead one that got smashed my Grandmother's shoe at her place on Lake Sinclair.
What areas do they normally hang out in? I looked them up and supposedly only 2 species of them are here in the state. One which lives in the bark of pine trees on the coast and the other I read ranges from Macon northward. This is interesting to know: Stings typically produce a burning pain but it is usually does not last long. During recent field work with this species, both myself and Dirk Stevenson have received stings by this species. The sting immediately burns but the pain is completely gone within a half an hour. This being said, any envenomation should be watched carefully as many people are hypersensitive to various venoms and those person may be health compromised very quickly due to a scorpion sting. For those persons, seek medical attention immediately! |

with that being said I had no ideas that scorpions were in GA I'd never seen one in Georgia until I moved to Milledgeville, they're all over the place here. I find them in my shops ALL the time, but never had any issues with them stinging me. Even found a couple dozen of them living in some stacked tin, it was like a scorpion massacre. Beware, those bastards are actually pretty fast! |

I see them in Braselton often. Always outside. Been stung several times, mostly when laying pine straw. Dog (22# terrier) has gotten stung several times in the face playing with them. When that happened she'd get little welts that didn't seem to bother her.
Now I think I'll go listen to In Trace and maybe Blackout. Mark |
| I've never seen one here in Jefferson. However, I see plenty of them around the Lake Lanier area. Everyone I know that lives within 15 minutes of the lake has scorpions at least on their property. If you want to see a ton of them, go to Elachee nature center and kick over a log. In middle GA you're more likely to see bark scorpions, or Centruroides hentzi. |
