I'm trying to buy an inexpensive (cheap) car for my college bound daughter on Craigslist and it is making me want to punch a baby in the face.
Not an exaggeration to say that 99.9% of the sellers, even in the "by owner" section are filthy, lying, Taliban, al Qaeda, Nigerian scammers, flippers and/or cheating, thieving trash. "Immaculate condition" with a single picture means the other side of the car has been hit by a tractor-trailer. "Low mileage" means less than 250,000. More like 249,350 miles "Like-new" means it was imported from the gray market in Canada through Michigan (most likely 20 feet deep in Lake Michigan) and the rust is all that holds it together. "Clean Title" means it's forged and/or photoshopped and reprinted with a $50 Office Max printer And would it be too much to ask that anyone can spell or speak the Englishfuckinglanguage??? roy d...as in 'Merican? |

Used car and particularly truck prices are stupidly high. If you look for more obscure models you'll find better prices (Mercury Milan vs a Ford Fusion)
Also cars like cadillac CTS are half what a comparable camry or accord is. Infiniti tend to be devalued as well. Second tier japanese and korean Kia, Mitsu, etc will be cheaper. |

Try autotraderonline.com I've had much better results there. Mainly since you have to pay to place the ad. |

I've purchased 3 used vehicles in the past 3 years. CarFax was accurate on the first and the last in terms of ownership records and number or lack of accidents but wasn't on the middle purchase. Ownership was correct but I believe there were at least 2 accidents not reported on that vehicle. Those accidents could have been repaired by a DIYer or maybe the shop didn't report - not sure.
Have never used Auto Check. |
I feel your pain. If I have another Dealer tell me that the truck I have called about is "on its way back from detailing" and they will call me back in a bit when it gets back from the shop only to never hear from them again, I'm going to drive over and [insert} against COC response [insert]
I have learned to interpret pics of vehicles by what has been left out of the pics as some kinda damage or torn. I actually am considering flying to Dallas and spending a day or two looking there as there are 5 times the amount of what I am looking for there than here

My new to me 2010 f150 super crew has had repair and or refinish to the 3 of the doors right bedside and tailgate. Outside looking in the repairs seem to be minor and of decent quality. My 1998 z-71 I bought back in 2002 had the extended part of the cab repainted on the passenger side. (didnt match in the sun) carfax showed no info on either one. |
