If you are open carrying in the state, you have to have a Georgia Weapons Carry License, but are you required to produce it simply because you are asked by law enforcement?
Let's obviously assume you are not breaking any law. I'm under the impression you only have to produce ID if you are being held for committing an offense, is a Weapons License the same way? Thoughts? |

Federal Judge Rules You Can Be Held
Looks like I may have found the answer to my question. |

Quoted: If you are open carrying in the state, you have to have a Georgia Weapons Carry License, but are you required to produce it simply because you are asked by law enforcement? Let's obviously assume you are not breaking any law. I'm under the impression you only have to produce ID if you are being held for committing an offense, is a Weapons License the same way? Thoughts? Why would you do that? Seriously outside of wanting to create a scene, film it and post the after action report and media on the Internet, what purpose would that sort of response to LE serve? Chance are that poor sap was just the guy who caught the MWAG call. |
| I'm sure someone that knows better could answer better than I can, but myunderstanding is that if you're carryingout any action that requires a certain sort of documentation to do it, then you must present that documentation on request. For instance, if you're driving a car, you must produce a driver's license upon request. I'd assume it would be the same for open-carrying of a firearm. |

Owning a gun is a right, no license required.
Driving a car is a privilege and requires a license, which you must produce when asked if you are operating a car. The state (.gov) considers carrying your gun a privilege, for which you must acquire a license and produce on request. |
