I know people here have heard of this stuff. It supposedly makes PB blaster seem like water. Anyway, I need some, and I can't find anywhere in Athens that has it. Granted I've been checking shops like HD, lowes, tractor supply, etc. I'm beginning to think I need to check industrial type stores, or HVAC supply.

Any ideas for local shops before I just order it online?

HVAC stores will be your best bet. Grainger also carries it. United refrigeration, C C Dickson, Johnstone etc.

Industrial supply in Toccoa, has plenty but a place like Fastenal or Grainger should have it both of which are in Athens.

ETA: Just checked Fastenal and Grainger's site, no dice, might be worth a call to the local store though.

Check these places,

Clarke Industrial Supply Inc
171 Paradise Blvd, Athens, GA ?
(706) 548-3136 ?

Fastenal Company
590 Olympic Dr, Athens, GA ?
(706) 613-1912 ? · fastenal.com

Grainger Inudstrial Supply

1205 Commerce Rd, Athens, GA ?
(706) 546-0595 ? · grainger.com

I'm in Athens on the weekends if you don't have any luck I could pick some up and meet up somewhere.

as an auto tech both Kroil and PB blaster works well, we are also using a product from Kimball Midwest, Torq "cb" corrosion blasting penetrating oil, it works VERY well also

I'm trying to get a steel tube loose from anothers threads. I've applied generous amounts of liquid wrench and also heated it with a torch. Broke 3 strap wrenches in the process. Kroil seems to be the best bet to get in there, but I'm open to ideas.

If a torch isn't getting it I'm not sure kroil will work, it's good stuff but may not be that good. BTW the stuff you probably want is the SiliKroil which comes in aerosol. What about a big pipe wrench?

What works best for me on large threaded pipe is to heat it to a dull red then hit it with the kroil. Don't breathe the fumes and get the wrench on it quick.

Regular kroil can also be bought as an aerosol.

Can't beat 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone.

The only thing that kroil won't loosen is the f'ing cap they put on the can.

Kroil Penetrating Oils

Being in the aerospace industry we use their "Aerokroil" product, damn good stuff!

Maybe try Aircraft Spruce. They have a location in Peachtree City.

How do you milk a mouse?

You can milk anything with nipples.

From my experience with helping wrench on older cars, the new WD40 penetrating oil is the bees knees. It comes in the grey and black can.

Years ago I subscribed to a machinist magazine that tested a number of penetrating oils, that included WD-40, PB blaster and Kroil.  WD-40 performed the worst, and a homemade solution of 50/50 acetone and ATF fluid performed the best.

Well I checked Grainger this morning, they didn't have any. Went by Campbells, and they had the aerokroil, but I need the squeeze bottle. So, guess its a good thing to have amazon prime...

Sounds like the threads are galled. Oil won't help. Heat will, but the threads will either be destroyed or require chasing.

What size pipe and what material?

Are you in or near Milton?  I've got a couple cans of kroil.  I had it on my Christmas list and got multiples.  I'd be happy to help if you're near me.

Kano Kroil is GOOD SHIT! I've actually mopped a lead fouled bore with it, let it sit a day and came back to find that it creeped under the fouling. Flakes came out on a clean patch! Good shit...

The best alternative to Kroil is zMAX.  You only need about 180 degrees of heat for it to penetrate the metal.  It is readily available at all auto parts stores, and Wal-Mart/KMART/Target.  It is a super small molecule mineral oil that is so small it get in the metal pores and can get under the layers of crud.  I use the two interchangeably for cleaning.

It is also a key ingredient in my BoltLube, which zMAX just licensed to produce as "BoltLube by zMAX".

zMAX is the only metal treatment that is allowed by the FTC to state that - for automotive use - they reduce friction, reduce deposits, increase mileage, improve performance, extend engine life, and reduce emissions.  They are also the ONLY product allowed by the FAA to be used in a piston aircraft engine...  It is not an oil treatment, it just uses the oli to get to the metal - it is a METAL TREATMENT.
