Need to vent... Ex moved out of state four years ago while we were in the middle of a divorce, ceding full custody to me. Moved back in state a year ago, and in the spring talked daughter into moving in with her. Daughter split her time during the summer between both our places, but since school has started, has primarily lived with her mother (with me paying car insurance, gas, and cellphone). Ex hasn't paid child support in at least two years, btw. She finally got around to giving me the papers where she's filing with the court to modify the custody agreement, and has made verbal statements regarding knowing she owes me money and that it's mostly about formalizing how she'll pay me back since I'll still be covering daughter's medical after she graduates high school in May (when child support/custody would normally end). Of course, the actual PAPERWORK mentions recalculating child support and wants copies of all of my financial documents going back to January 2009 (which is BEFORE the divorce). So while I'm already out a good chunk of change repairing daughter's car and covering medical expenses the past couple of months, now I suspect I need to pay an attorney to look this over and give me advice (to make life even more fun, the attorney who was handling my original divorce died before mediation and his junior associate finished the case, so I'd need to dig out the contact information for where the junior associate wound up after that firm closed doors, if I want continuity). |
| Good luck man. I have been separated for 5 years and won't get divorced until July when my younger daughter turns 18 just because it's easier to do things withoout the courts involved. I'm lucky that we split on amicable terms and she's been careful not to piss me off because she enjoys still having .mil retiree benefits and getting more tax refund money by filing married. |
