| Can anyone please tell me the consequences of Driving under the influence? |
| too vague of a question. accident invovled? single vehicle or multi? if you just get pulled over and no accident you will go to jail, get a bond after 8 hours or so, looking at around $2-2500. a decent lawyer will be around $3500-5000. your license will be suspended and you can appeal, but still looking at some time with no license then at best a dui permit to and from work, school, etc. roughly a thousand in fines and court fees. dui school around $600 and an evaluation at around $100. $2-300 to get license back. a year probation at around $50 a month and monthly visit to probation office. this is merely a rough estimate as all this can differ. |
| It really depends. If you have your "first offenders", that will really help. Like others said, they will arrest you and put you in the drunk tank for a few hours. Bail is probably closer to $1000-1500, and a good lawyer for a DUI case is closer to $1500. Also, about the license suspension, (not a lawyer here, but I have been through this when I was young and reckless) there is some provision where you contest the license suspension within 2 weeks of your arrest and you can get it back. If you don't do this, it will be gone for a while. So get your lawyer on that part quick. |
| Just driving, no accident, should be nothing, if you cause damage you should pay the person 2x the amount to make them whole. If you hurt someone where they can recover 100% you shall serve 10 years hard labor, if they will have lingering effects 20 years hard labor, if you kill someone you shall be put to death within 30 days. |

Can anyone please tell me the consequences of Driving under the influence? If we're lucky, you'll have a single car accident ending in a slow painful death. If we're not lucky, you'll end up being a burden on us by consuming our tax dollars within our bureaucratic uber-liberal penal system. |
| It is interesting (and good) how the perception and stigma of DUIs has changed over the years. My Dad must have had 10-20 DUIs or had the cops take his keys in the 60s through the mid 80s. Back then if you actually got a DUI, you could pay a bunch of money to a lawyer who contributed some to the judge's retirement fund and you'd get to keep your license. He finally got his act together after losing his license for a year in the mid 80s. He stayed sober for a number of years before he passed. |

Weird first post. Weird location. Something's fishy here. uh, yeah. putting on my detective hat, this user only has two posts, one thread here and one thread in the Canada HTF. Quoted:
What are the common convictions that will make a person inadmissible to Canada? Can anyone tell? |

Way too many incorrect responses. I'm going through litigation for DUI - Alcohol Less Safe currently. There are so many misconceptions and mistrusts. It truly is situational. Many of the variables were mentioned, but several others were not even mentioned. As I said, I've learned too much to type regarding the ins and outs during my experience.
