On 85-S this morning just north of LaGrange and I see temporary signs on both sides of the road ahead of the weigh station saying something like "all trucks and busses must stop for inspection."  This station has PrePass so it's abnormal that ALL trucks would be required to stop.  I've never heard of busses having to be weighed.  A little closer to the station is a big lighted sign saying passenger carrying vehicles must stop.

What's up with them wanting to "inspect" passenger busses?  Looking for somebody?  I didn't see any GSP at the station, just the DOT public safety guys.

With all the news stories of bus companies operating illegally, this is no surprise.

I don't have a problem with the DOT safety guys stopping a bus, checking the vehicle and the driver's paperwork.
I would have a problem with them asking the passengers for ID. unless LE had specific information about a wanted individual was on a bus in the area.

Big Brother doesn't like non-union, non-crony companies creating value for us without paying tribute to them, eh?

I don't know what they're looking for.  Just found it odd since I've never seen them stop buses before.  I didn't know there was an outbreak of illegal bus operators.  That probably explains it.

From what I remember, there were a lot of companies "re-opening" under new LLCs after being shut down by regulators. I'm sure you can get away with it for awhile, too.

The illegal bus, taxi, limo and moving services are always a huge problem here in Atlanta.  I worked with the Public Service Comission last year and was amazed with the amount of illegal companies operating.  One of th moving companies even had ties to a terrorist organization.  Very interesting stuff.
