Thought I would remind everyone of a day that is often overlooked.  One of the largest military operations in history where many brave men lost their lives, 69 years ago today.

Thanks. Did you know that Yahoo news selected 80 top stories to be featured this morning and not a single one is about the anniversary of the greatest amphibious assault ever, that it changed the course of the war, and made history?

My grandfather served as a sailor on a merchant marine liberty ship, avoiding the U-Boats and bringing supplies across the Atlantic to soldiers like my 2 (identical twin) second uncles Christopher and Francis who crossed the channel on 6 JUN 1944 and landed on beaches Sword and Utah.
Used to spend hours with uncle Frank listening to stories and getting great lessons in WWII history. He always reverently spoke of others and never of his own experiences as he was the kind of guy who put others ahead of himself.
These guys were truly the greatest generation because IMHO, those generations thereafter largely fell into apathy.
All are long gone now but not forgotten.

I love WWII history but somehow always overlook D Day and Pearl Harbor. Thanks for the reminder.

Maybe i will have my own little Band of Brothers marathon!

Edt:  forgot the important part, lets take a moment to remember those that took part and made the ultimate sacrifice on this day.

I still can't imagine how anyone survived that day, much less triumphed.

Thanks for the reminder.

I've got my head so far up the Academy's Arse right now I don't know what day it is.
Again thanks to all those brave 'kids' that began the freeing of Europe that day.

My dad is a WW2 vet - there are damn few left. We owe them a great debt.
