What is a good par time to work towards when loading from 4 shell caddies?

Not dropping one of the four is a good step ahead of me.

I think I got that part down...as long as its not 20 degrees and snowing like the last match I shot.

For starting out try sub 8 seconds. Then reduce it by 1 second intervals. I think Pat Kelly can do 8 rds in right at 4 secs.

Have you tried any of the Load two loaders? I just started loading strong hand this way and the rounds are more controllable and faster. Especially on a lockback.

I just bought a load two vest and can't wait to try it out.

I haven't.  I have watched some videos of them and am going to have to give them a try.  I am hovering right at 6 seconds right now.  I generally end up fumbling one shell every 4-5 runs and that puts me over 6.

I was an RO on two stages at the Rock Castle/ Benelli Shotgun match last month. The Load Two method was pretty dominating amongst the shooters I saw. It also requires a little less finesse than shuffling four rounds, especially for those like me with smaller hands.

I ran some Tac Com loaders- two sixes and 1 four rounder all on my strong side. I ran Otto 4 rounders on my weak side. I am seriously digging this vest though.

It really seems to be the way things are going. Until some new method like load 3 comes out.

Agreed, 8 seconds is a good start from caddies and remember that consistency is key.

BTW, they skipped over load 3 for quad loading

An easy target is 1 second per shell for any of the loading methods.

That should include your dismount/mount.

The load two/load four is quickly becoming the most popular method but does require a special rig.
There are a couple of methods that the shell caddies can support.

You will quickly find out at 3-Gun/Multi-Gun matches; that the skill lies in how well you can load the shotgun and much less in how well you shoot it.

Take a look at the AP Customs shotgun caddies and load two style setup. Extremely nice kit.

If saigas were allowed to compete in the more popular divisions(with an 8 round max or something), I wonder how they would compete.

I will say that I was pretty much able to utilize the load two method from the belt and load 8 in 5 seconds on the first try. After a dozen runs.....I was able to beat my best weak hand load.

It has taken me a couple of years to be able to load 8 from caddies weak hand in low 4's and that method can have a high fumble factor.

Like 00bullit said, include your dismount/ mount (simulated shot to shot) times.  If your are doing that in 6 seconds, then you are doing just fine.  Keep gradually reducing the par time to push yourself to go faster.  Trick is to go fast, while maintaining efficient movements and like said, avoiding fumbling rounds.  If you are not already, practice while moving various distances/ speeds as well.

My weak hand thumb has been giving me problems the past couple months so up until last week I haven't been practicing.  Tried using the strong hand with the caddies and don't really like that.  In some situations an advantage to the weak hand load is the ability to keep the shotgun shouldered, if you desire.

Now this load two/ four method is starting to grow on me.  At first I wasn't too caught up with it, but it does seem to be taking hold and for very good reason.  Just watched this video of Jesse Tischauser last night:  If he doesn't say it here, he did in a post elsewhere, but said he can load 12 shells in the same amount of time it takes him to load 8 using the weak hand method.

I'm liking the AP custom holders, but there are quite a few options out there.
