| Has anyone else seen an increase in transfer fees lately? I've used Aim Center Mass in Hinesville four times now, once in December, once in February, and twice now in March. For the first three transfers, the fee was $35 (which is already too high IMO), but my most recent transfer last week, they bumped the price up to $45. I think this is just a preview of what can happen if every firearm must be tranferred through an FFL. And if anyone has a better place to do transfers in the area, please let me know. I'm still relatively new to the area. |

Aim Center Mass is the problem. They're retarded. Used to be a good shop, but their prices are insane and the folks behind the counter could not care less about anything but separating you from your money.
I'd check with Duck's Pawn or Coastal Pawn for Transfers. Really, I'd check with any place other than Aim Center Mass. |

Anything over $25 is a complete rip off for a transfer IMO. I've never paid over $20. My ex used to do transfers and she said they could be tedious but they don't take that long. Those stores who charge $40 obviously don't want my business. I also love the stores that wont transfer firearms if they have the same model for sale, as if they don't have a competitor who will transfer it for me. Get to know an FFL who is reasonable and will give you discounts for doing class 3 transfers and being a repeat customer.
You're right though, if transfers are required on all sales I can see $50 becoming the norm unfortunately. |

A first time transfer takes me an average of 2 hours. That may seem like a long time, but replying to their initial email contact, then explaining the whole process on the phone including info I need to send my FFL, filling out and faxing my FFL to the seller, sometimes calling the seller to get info I need from them cuz they won't give it to buyer, signing for firearm from shipper, entering seller and buyer and gun into my computer, printing label for gun, more often than you'd think having to explain some or all of the 4473 to customers, (seldom, but sometimes having to read each box and question to the buyer cuz he failed to learn to read in school) calling in the NICS, waiting for up to 3 days to get an answer, registering gun out to buyer in the computer, and NOW having to log it in by hand in a handwritten A&D book because the head "defective" at the sheriff's office thinks the state REQUIRES a handwritten book even though ATF accepts my computer generated A&D log, (I KNOW I have left out a step or two, please insert them HERE). THEN after I am FINALLY DONE, having to hear about every gun they ever owned, or shot, and each one their grandpa owned too!!! Now that you have a general idea as to what all is involved and why it generally takes two hours for the first transfer, REMEMBER that I am on the hook for that 4473 for the next TWENTY YEARS!!!!!!! Should I fail to produce even one of the nearly 6,000 4473s in my possession, if ANY LEO EVER wants to look at it, OR receive a faxed copy of it, I could conceivably incur criminal penalties, or at the very least lose my license and therefore my livelihood!!!
And yes, I only charge $20 for a transfer, plus an additional $5 if you need a background check. But I guaranDAMNtee you that it is NOT a profit center! It is a service to the gun community, and you guys that bitch and whine about having to pay for the service ought to do it for a living for a month and see how much you think is a "fair price" afterward!!!!!

It seems like every time I'm in a gun store the person behind the counter wants to tell me all about their guns or when I have something transferred the FFL is all interested in it. Just today my FFL got my Beretta 90-two and was saying how nice it was. I remember I bought a GSG-5 when they first came out and my FFL was telling me how cool it was when he saw it lol. |

Cherokee still does transfers for free!!!! This or Emu. No problems with either. Cherokee has lots of parts and used to carry ammo . I'd pick up some extras when getting my transfer.
Emu... A couple more are inbound. |

Emu... A couple more are inbound. Soooo, you ordered those back in October???
I'll be looking for your goodies to show up. I've got several back ordered for customers as well, so if they give you a heads up let me know. If they get here before they let you know, I'll do my best to keep them out of my personal stash... |

Well, since Emu pointed out some of the downsides for the FFL...
I just love when stuff shows up with no clue who sent it. We do few transfers but this happens ALL the time. Even stuff coming directly from big manufacturers will lack a copy of their FFL. Took me over two weeks of leaving messages at Savage to get a copy of their FFL. Took some "industry partner" friends to get Beretta to send me their FFL. Stuff will come from individuals with no copy of their drivers license. Had one of those recently where the seller kept sending me illegible faxes of his DL and couldn't understand why it was such a big deal. Then there is the guy who was on a drinking binge in Las Vegas and on a whim with his buddies bought a pistol (his first ever gun purchase) and the dealer sent it to us because that dealer had just received an item from us that day and noticed the customer lived in our city. So, pistol shows up with NO info and NO FFL from the dealer. It sits here for a couple days until the customer comes by. I suck up a bunch of time explaining the transfer process and forms and guess what? His transaction is also delayed. After several days the ATF still has no updates and I refused to transfer the pistol to the guy (again, covering MY ass). So I get to babysit the pistol for nearly two months until the guy got his carry permit. Oh, I have LOTS of transfer stories I could share. I really don't mind handling transfers when all the info is there and the guy has a carry permit. If not, they can be a huge pain in the ass and time suck. Speaking of that... If the guy who sent the Mosin Nagant in here the other day doesn't send me his personal info so I can long the rifle, it might just end up getting Cerakoted pink. If I'm gonna have to deal with a transfer hassle, I might as well have some fun with it.
I agree I can see prices going up if dealers/4473s are required on all transfers. Sure hope the silliness doesn't come to that. $40 for a transfer? Not gonna tell someone how to run their business but I couldn't look a guy in the eye and tell him that was the fee. I think that dealer should just stop doing transfers.

| I'm not one to expect something for nothing...a free transfer is a loss for the FFL because time is money. The one plus from the situation was they had DPMS 308 parts kits in stock for $73.95. That's a pretty good price given the market. They will certainly not see another transfer through me. |

I don't know about your area, but mine are done for $5.00. I would never go in a store charging $45.00. That is highway robbery Dawger, you prob want to read this stickied post above in regards to your Zombie lower (which FFL option you'd like yours shipped to) http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_8_35/513029_HTF_Lower___Final_Thread____UPDATE_2_8_2013.html&page=8 |
Got my CZ70 transferred there a week or two ago, gratis. Bought some ammo, though.
