I have a 2007 F150 super crew and the driver's side map lights is out in the overhead console (no sun roof, just the console with the sunglass holder)
How on God's green earth do you get to those bulbs!?!? I read a few things on the inter-webz that say you can "easily" pull the entire console down.
I've pulled and tried to pry to the point I was pretty sure I was gonna break something, so short of using a crow bar I see nothing easy about it. Didn't see a way to just pry the clear lens covers that you push to turn on and off down to access them either. Is it really that hard to change a frigging map light? (apparently it is for me) |

Are you talking about the lights in the center roof console? I replaced mine with LEDs a while ago and it was pretty simple. Just a matter of popping out the clear plastic and replacing the bulbs.
And Vote is currently elbow deep in a broken Escort and wishing he had a PBR. |

I looked at that and started to pry out there, but it's tight, the clear insets pretty deep inside the cut out so I was afraid I'd break it. Didn't help I was already pissed off and probably would have just ripped until it broke if I had kept going. |
| It looked like it was partially taken off in the video, but it showed that the console is being held on with 4 metal spring clips. You should be able to pull directly down where the clips are located (applies more force than pulling between the clips) and it should come off with enough force. I would be a little careful about pulling the front portion too quickly since there are wires attached to the console. I would also recommend trying to use your fingers/hand to pull over using a screwdriver/prybar. |

I just looked.
I did what the guy in the video did but had to use a dash removal tool. He probably already popped off the tabs and just pulled it down. A flat head will work too but you just have to be careful to not break the plastic console part. I incorrectly thought I just pulled off the clear plastic, its been some years since I did this |
| OK, got it. Thanks Kudzu. There's actually 6 tabs & there's not the way I thought they were. I just had to get something wide and thin enough to slide in all the way to the tab to break them loose, I was pulling on the very outer edges thinking they were those cheesy little spring clips along the sides. |

sorry i got in here late, Kudu is correct on how to change them
and no PBR's here
sometimes you have to pull like hell to get the console assembly down, OP it's not you sometimes these things can be frustrating. i just had to change a front display module in a 2013 Escape today, i'd like to just blast the "engineer" in the face that came up with that garbage. |
