Just wanted to share what most of us already know, but now the FBI is being completely overwhelmed.
The rest talks about using the ECheck for NICS. Good Morning,
During the past few months, the FBI NICS Section has been forced to make some major NICS process modifications due to unprecedented transaction/call volume. The high volumes have not ceased. Until further notice, the NICS Section will no longer accept calls from the FFL for status checks. The service has been eliminated because the FFL will receive notice of a final status shortly after the NICS Examiner has made a final decision. The FBI NICS Section processes NTNs in the order they were received. Once the transactions are completed, they are instantly put in a queue for the FFL to be contacted with a final status. Also, when an FFL is conducting a NICS background check, during transfer calls to the FBI NICS Section, if an FFL has completed transactions; they will be provided a final status prior to concluding the call. <snip> |

Being an FFL, this is relevent to my day in day out business. My MO has always been to call NICS one last time before I transfer the firearm after the 3 business day wait period when it has been placed on delayed status, just to give them one last chance to say no before I conclude the transfer, simply to play CYA. I guess that is no longer an option? I'm curious as to where you got this info. I ~think~ I'd like to be on that mailing list too.... |

Do you get the open letter email up dates?
I think you can register on the ATF web site. This one comes from the FBI and I registered on the ECheck site. Email me you email address and I'll forward the entire letter and you can find it from there. I have used ECheck since 2005 and love it. I can print out the proceed or denied and place it with the 4473 when complete. I look at it like another CYA if they ever come back and say why did you transfer this gun to this person. Plus I don't have to have a phone stuck to my ear when I did the shows. I think ECheck works better for me and there is less chance of making a mistake giving or receiving info from the examiners. |
